Connectwise Elite Server Care feedback

Account/Billing/Sales/Support

Is anyone using this service? An Axcient rep plugged this as a 90% full service option for managed backups on Axcient or Veeam. They're also branding it as proactive Windows server and service care with 24/7 monitoring and remediation. Helping with broken patching, failed services etc, and an additional hotline co-managed clients can call for server issues. The only exclusion they've explicitly called out is networking - it is server only, no network support. I can respect that.

It sounds great but I'm envisioning everything just coming back to me or poor response time when an issue does come up that they can handle themselves. I don't mean to be overly skeptical but I am expecting the wor

Looking for input on Active Directory MFA. For security hardening and compliance we typically use Duo for local AD MFA. Are there other solutions that come highly recommended in this space? This is specific to PC and Server interactive logon. Thanks for any input!

(We don't have any issues with Duo just doing our best to stay current as we make recommendations and implementations)

Has anyone successfully done a database export and import on v5.5? I'm trying to transfer a family member's phone from an old Android to new Android, both running SimpleX v5.5. I have a good backup with a DB passphrase set. I have stopped chat on the new device and tried multiple times to import the .zip or the full extract path .db file but both are greyed out and do not allow me to import.

Old phone: Pixel 3a - Android 12

New phone: Pixel 7 - Android 13

I'm guessing this is just a bug in the latest version, but this is a bad deal for the new phone. Any tips?

I currently sync select folders to and from my home nas over Tailscale via the (awesome) FolderSync android app. Great solution to push new DCIM content to my NAS automatically and also 2-way sync my Documents folder for easy access from mobile.

FolderSync is great for setting up folder pairs in simple relationships like this.

However I'm curious if any SMB apps also include the ability to cache recently access or pinned files (like Files On Demand in OneDrive / SharePoint / Google Drive).

I believe SeaFile and Nextcloud both offer functionality like this but would love to keep the server side drop dead simple as it is with pure SMB shares accessed over Tailscale. I'm not opposed to sw

What are some methods that have worked for you to help clients verify what support company is actually calling them?

I recently heard the account of a sophisticated attack where a client's voip calls were being monitored. A few minutes before MSP technicians were scheduled to call, the attacker called in claiming to be the MSP and attempted to start a remote session with the end user. The actual MSP technician was able to intervene by asking questions and being pushy. But what is stopping this attacker from repeating this process? Not much...

The situation was eye opening in multiple ways:

  • VoIP call gateway communication is often unencrypted and needs to be
  • Adversaries are clearly watc

I'm curious if anyone has played with the "Boom" utility introduced a few years ago in RHEL 7.5. It looks intriguing and could offer some cool functionality and a safety net for big changes, updates, etc.

I'd like to look at running it on Alma Linux 9 in combination with snapper or other LVM snapshot automation.

Any experiences on a RHEL based distro?

Has anyone tried going beyond the advertised 2tb 2.5" sata limit on the gk55?

Samsung Evo 870 4tb is on sale right now. Would love to squeeze more storage into this tiny little device.

I have a slow LVM Integrity RAID volume that I want to apply Writecache to (Data drive for VM and NAS storage).

With current LVM rules I can do this a couple of ways:

#1 - Manually edit DM table metadata config to add writecaching to the integrity RAID

- this is a little messy but allows mount at boot like any other LVM volume and bypasses the rules manually

#2 - Use dmsetup to add the writecache volume onto the existing Integrity RAID volume (command below)

- this is what LVM would normally do for me but its rules tell it not to (d

I'd like to get some of the new features in Stratis v3 builds on RHEL 9 but I'm not seeing them in the repo. I can manually install newer release rpms and dependencies. But that puts me into manual maintenance.

Has anyone tested newer Stratis releases on RHEL 9 or do you all recommend just staying with only the builds included in the repo?

I appreciate your input!

Has anyone come up with an automation for scheduling and auto pruning snapshots in Stratis storage? I'd love to have something similar to the functionality of Snapper even if it's just a manually coded script.

Hoping to achieve the following:

  • Daily - retain 10
  • Weekly - retain 4
  • Monthly - retain 6

If any would be willing to share I would love to promote your work and this great new storage system. Every time I interact with the Stratis team I hear about more things Stratis can do. The future of Linux storage is bright.

I need to build a new NAS that will go into a remote location with no immediate access to support. The box will be allowed to send email alerts to let me know if things are failing. But I will have to go onsite for any remediation and quite some distance away. The setup does not need to be elaborate but needs to be solid.

I'm fairly new to BTRFS and am worried about notes I'm seeing that a single drive failure can prevent the whole array from mounting. If I'm understanding correctly it looks like this shows up primarily after a reboot, following a drive failure. The setup for now is planned to be a pair of drives in a raid 1.

As I may not be able to assist with a degraded state situation
