Hey guys,

As the title states I was just wondering if reaching C6 as a soprano is impressive or not, considering I have only less than 2 months of vocal coaching behind me and pretty sure I was already able to hit that note before being coached. Does that mean I could possibly go higher ? Am I coloratura ?

Nota bene : the notes I reach still sound full and powerful as I go up.

Thanks for your input

Hey guys,

Im in the phase where in the last 2-3 years I woke up and slowly started to put words on the system I was raised (groomed more so) in aka a narcissistic family. Of course it affected my whole life : I’ve been in countless toxic relationships, friendships, was emotionally abused most of my life, stayed in toxic jobs… my parents completely fucked me over (I’ve been no to low contact with them for the last 2-3 years).

Anyways, as most of you might have gone through the same thing, it’s been VERY painful waking up to this whole reality. I’ve been mad at myself on top of all that for not noticing what has been done to me, the abuse, the wasted potential, the self-hatred…

I feel like

Lyric soprano range ?

Conversation Topic

Hi guys,

Question to the classical singing pros.

According to my vocal coach I’m a lyric soprano. We are testing how high I can get (I’ve been in private lessons for 1 month with him) and I’ve easily, or comfortably, reached B5 (Si5). He was very surprised because his students had never reached this note before.

I’m still new to this (like no clue about singing 6 months ago). But looking in the internet I don’t think it should be very out of the ordinary, as it seems lyric sopranos can go up to D6 (Ré6) right ?

Any idea why it seemed surprising to him? Does my voice have good potential ?

Other elements : my notes still stay full and powerful when I reach B5 and my voice still doesn’t

Hi guys,

Context : I’m around 30yo and left my country a few years ago. Was raised in a narcissistic family and I was the scapegoat, the emotional crutch that was holding the whole system together. Not the worse family (I’ve read worse cases here) but definitely abusive enough. I’ve developed low self esteem and was in therapy for years. A lot of my life has been affected by my parents neglect and abuse. My mom was super neglectful emotionally, she just didn’t care. As she’s gotten older and now retired she started clinging to me. At the same time I moved out and since then she refuses to accept that I keep my distances. Whenever we fight, instead of hearing what the fight is really about a

Recently my singing teacher told us sth that is so obvious but it really struck a chord. When you play of an instrument, you learn which chord/key you have to press to play a certain note. But in singing, you cannot, it’s very instinctive. Yes you can train it, but ultimately it’s not as simple a finding a key and pressing it. So for those that have this ability to sing, even more so when you have a good base before training your voice : what do you think it tells of you ? For example : that you are more sensitive/sensible than average ? More instinctive ? Confident ? Good listener ?

Looking for you guys’ thoughts :)

Awful acapella singing

Conversation Topic

Hi guys,

Started to sing only a few months ago. Never thought I could sing because my a capella voice is disastrous. But it seems I can sing well when I can rely on a track in the background. What is the explanation behind that ? And how can I better my acapella singing ?

Thank youuu :)

Hi guys,

Wanted to know if any of y’all had been in a situation in life where you almost unconsciously (or consciously) followed your heart even if that made 0 rational sense, maybe even costing you sth or putting you in a very difficult situation, but it turned out for the best in the end ? Even though at the time you couldn’t really comprehend/see it ?

It can we work related, or love, friendship, whatever makes sense for you. Big life decisions.

Thank you 🙏🏼

Hi guys,

Already posted regarding my parents and specially my nMom. Cut my parents off (with rare contacts with my dad) 2 years ago approx, and only now am I putting a label on what really occurred during my childhood and teenage years : i was the victim of narc abuse from my parents, and my brother also had begun to abuse me as well. I say begin because i eventually left home at 18 (with rare comebacks here and there).

Reading all the experiences here validate what I’ve been through and specially how much I had normalized this and truly didn’t deserve it (also explained why I was always in terrible relationship, romantic or friendship, but would always accommodate because I thought sth

Hi guys,

Does it also feel for anyone else that you are disconnected with the world and the people around you ?

I’m around 30 yo and come from a toxic family and I’ve always isolated myself as a protection I guess it’s important to note that because it plays into it. Been in therapy for a few years as well to anticipate any questions on it.

Regardless, I’ve never felt like I needed to be in a romantic relationship for instance. Sure I liked guys, I even fell in love but sadly I was reproducing patterns from childhood and knew I couldn’t commit because the relationship was toxic. So I’ve never shared the deep intimacy that comes with a long term relationship with anyone. I’m always in a
