My 5yo son told me about his high ambitions

He wants to be

  1. As strong as Eddie Hall
  2. Stronger than the moon
  3. As tall as me (a 5 foot 8 stallion of man)

So that he can take on Giant on gladiators.

I'd love to let him actually write to Eddie, any suggestions? Finding his PR manager?

We've written to authors before, which has been nice hearing back (the author of Mini Rabbit even sent a print and a lovely note back, there's a story about sending a letter and my son sent this one, which arrived covered in mud and footprints).

Who have you contacted? I once drunkenly wrote to Stephen Hawking which reading back later sounded like I was five as well, and got a polite message back

So, I'll summarise the key points that I think are relevant here

  1. Bitcoin was transferred to an exchange (mtgox) many years ago (yes yes I know)
  2. The exchange either deliberately or due to incompetence or both lost a whole bunch and went insolvent
  3. Bankruptcy proceedings are slowly winding up, paying out some but not all of what was originally in the exchange
  4. Payouts are not linear, and the amounts stolen/lost were not specifically from individual accounts (i.e. it's not that my account was hacked and specifically some amount stolen just from some users).

What I'm trying to understand is what counts as a gain and a loss. There are three situations I can see as reasonable, I'll us

Hopefully this fits with the general theme of ukpf, though I know it leans on the legal side.

I had new smart meters fitted last year. The IHD worked for gas, but not for electricity. That was annoying but my electricity use was broadly flat so it wasn't that interesting. Maybe October I noticed the electricity one had started working at some point, but the gas one had stopped. As we headed into winter I wanted to track things more as, well, winter and heating & very expensive gas.

I told my supplier and they said it had dropped off the network in Sept, so I'd have to look at the meter itself. When I did, I got garbled things on the LCD then just nothing.

My best guess and working ass

Last push for this before I add my match, thanks to all those that have contributed so far, it's very kind :)

Hello lovely people.

I'm going to preface all of this with two really important things

  • Times are tough. Don't feel pressure to donate money you can't afford, the rest of the tone will be happy and encouraging but it is not trying to guilt anyone into doing it. The point of this is for me to help some people, if you can't afford it that's fine.
  • No discussions about the reasons people might need this, or how those in power should/shouldn't deal with anything. There are other subs for that. It's an emotive topic, and it'll be good if we just focus on the helping part here

Now, having said that, I'm going to plagiarise my last thread.

Hi all.

Electric cars now have an extremely good tax benefit coming from your company. Not as a loophole but explicitly created recently. If you're planning to lease a new car and are a higher rate taxpayer it can work out 42% cheaper.

Everything I can see about this covers leases, and I'm wondering if this is:

  • That's all that's legally possible
  • That's what I'm seeing in adverts as it's most common
  • That's most sensible because you can roll in insurance/servicing etc.

Is leasing all that's allowed? Or could (if offered) you buy a car outright with the same tax benefits? One on finance?

Some lease options it sounds like you can buy the car at the end - is this possible with the tax

Edit - Under 24 hours you lovely buggers. I've contributed my £666 + giftaid to match your donations. I'll have to pause the matching but please do keep chipping in if you can!

Hello,

I'm u/IanCal. You might remember me from such posts as tea jelly, year of pig love and double charity power.

I'm back! I wasn't gone, but I'm back nonetheless. And I'm hoping you'll help me feed the 5000.

I'm above the threshold for child benefit, so had ticked the box when registering to not receive anything so as not to get the money then just pay it back in tax.

Given potential changes to pensions, if I were to pull my relevant salary below the threshold what would I need to do? Can I still claim the child benefit or is that just gone now?

UPDATE- You all go so close to the target I thought I'd do my match a little early, and add a bit more in. I've put in £350 (matching everything from £695 up to the target and a bit more) + 17.50 to cover fees and also giftaid.

Total raised is now £1,638.75 including giftaid.

Thanks all!

Hello lovely people, and everyone else. Want to give twice as much to charity? I can help!

CasualUK is doing something nice so I thought I'd join in for once. I'll match donations up to the current target (so the next £300 or so anyone donates). I might increase this later but just to spare me if someone drops ten grand in :)
