Hi folks,

Unfortunately I made the mistake of selling RSUs from my company very close to December 15th without being registered to pay CGT.

Does anyone know what's the best way to pay it in time? I sent an enquiry to revenue but I'm not sure they'll reply it in time to sort it out.

The document available in the naturalisation form states this as a requirement for non EU citizens:

Evidence of your residency permissions that cover a CONTINUOUS PERIOD of 365/366 days in the year immediately prior to the date of application (date of Statutory Declaration) AND periods totalling 4 years in the 8 year period before that (i.e. a total of 5 x 365 days plus one day for each permission period in which 29 February falls (leap year)

Residency permissions are evidenced by stamps in your passport, while additional periods may be covered by letters issued by Immigration Service Delivery granting you permission for a specific period from or to a specified date. Please note that a

I got a certified transaltion of my foreign Birth Certificate for my naturalisation application from Translayte, which I didn't realize is based in the UK (reg: Association of Translation Companies (No. 2021ATCAC1283)).

Will that still work or should I get one from an Irish firm?

Hi there folks,

I'm currently on my first onboarding as a Staff+ engineer on a new company and, quite frankly, quite anxious about performing at the required level, given how strong the engineers in the organization seem to be.

I was performing at that level at my previous company and have cleared interviews for that level before (to which I later declined the offer for), but this is my first time fully onboarding into a new culture at that level. It doesn't help that I feel like I've gone from feeling like a "big fish in a small pond" to a "small fish in a big pond". I want to trust that we've assessed the situation properly from both sides during interviewing, but anxiety is still creepi

Hi there folks. I've worked with Java professionally for a number of years in the past and then dedicated myself to other languages (mostly Go & some Python).

I'm about to take a Java position and revisiting some things and I just can't believe the sheer amount of bad tutorials with broken English polluting my search results to the point it's even hard to find proper material written by library authors.

Are there some known documentation hubs for projects or how do you deal with this in general?

A bit of a deviation from standard soft skills questions here.

I've noticed a pattern, which could very well be biased: while PostgreSQL has gained enormous popularity in the industry, a lot of bigger companies still use MySQL (like Slack or HubSpot, for example).

Is it mostly due to sharding / Vitess or is there something else at play? Or have I just been misguided by specific examples?

I've been dealing with mild testicular pain for around 3 years on my left testicle. At first I suspected a torsion or cancer so I went to a GP who referred me for an ultrasound, where they found a varicocele on the left side. They told me it's "nothing to worry about" and that was it. Since then, the pain comes and goes and it gets especially noticeable around winter for some reason (I guess maybe since the testicles retract intro the body, it's worse somehow).

I've set an appointment with an urologist for late January but it's frankly becoming hard to bear with. I read about mild or dull pain online but this got quite distracting and has impacted my mood quite a bit. Unfortunately it doesn

Hi there folks! I'm looking for some advice to break in as a SWE with >10 years of experience. I've written all sorts of applications in many languages (even Rust & C++) and I would like to give coding games for fun a go.

I've tried using engines like Unity & Unreal a bit in the past, but I've always found them a bit cumbersome for a solo dev that prefers sticking to coding.

I've recently looked into Bevy and I find that quite palatable but even that project has a big north start of having an integrated visual editor.

Is there no way around that? And by that I mean that if I want to do this in any degree of seriousness I have to work with a visual editor?

Would love to hear opinions of o

Hi there folks. I recently re-installed the gate to my back garden using masonry bolts (without plugs). However, a recent storm here in Ireland proved too much for them and they've become loose.

The wholes are pretty big (10mm) so I would like to refill them with drillable material that will also help protect the integrity of the brick.

If that's not possible, I do have the option of making new holes in the wood and brick, but I'd prefer not to make swiss cheese out of it (which may also impact them structurally).

Would something like mortar work for filling those in and re-drilling them? Or would I be better off filling them with something like polyfilla and just drilling new holes?

Hi folks, I hope this question is allowed.

I recently bought a house that has some hair cracks in the tiles of one of the bathrooms. I suspect they happened due to the floor losing its level over time and there's also some missing grout.

I intend to call a professional tiler or a remodelling company to fix this long term, but in the mean time I'm concerned some water from the shower could get into these cracks.

Would applying grout where it's missing and using transparent silicone sealant on the hair cracks help as a temporary fix to keep water out?

Hi folks! I have a situation where a sparrow couple has repeatedly nested under my roof tiles during the year. They destroyed the felt and are causing a leak unfortunately so I'd like to discourage further nesting. What I'm not too sure about is what's the correct way to deal with this: is it legal to remove the unoccupied nest once the fledglings have left in order to repair the damage and protect the roof? I've read that sparrows nest throughout the year so I wasn't too sure on what I can safely do
