I wonder what happened to Shadowfax after Gandalf sailed into the West.

This funny little exchange could be added to the humor list..... Gimli: "The matter of the Lady Galadriel lies still between us. I have yet to teach you gentle speech." "We shall see, said Éomer. So many strange things have chanced that to learn the praise of a fair lady under the loving strokes of a Dwarf's ax will seem no great wonder. "
When Gandalf hurries from his meeting with Radagast to Saruman in FOTR, he meets Saruman up in the high chamber and Saruman has a ring. Do we know more what this is? I can't remember that it comes into play in other places. And somewhere else in this chapter (council of Elrond), Saruman is described as a ring-maker. I can't find the reference. Is it just that he studied "the arts of the enemy himself?"
Hobbit book says Filli and Killi were about 50 years younger than other dwarves. Isn't that about the same for Gimli?
I have found this album on both youtub and spotify.
My favorites right now are the song called "Shadowfax and the White Rider."
It has epic horns, a rousing percussive rhythm and then sometimes you get some celtic flute passages that remind one of Pippin riding along with Gandalf.
The other favorite is "The Returning." It is both epic and poignant as one visualizes the return of Elves to the West, or the return of each of the Fellowship to their homes.
It has my highest recommendation, and if you aren't familiar with his first Middle Earth album, it is wonderful too.
Sarehole, England. I'm in USA and I'd like to get it accurate in my head when I'm reading.
Finrod is talking with Beren, who has just come from Thingol's challenge..... "Felagund heard his tale in wonder and disquiet; and he knew that the oath he had sworn was come upon him for his death, as long before he had foretold to Galadriel."
What oath? Is this somewhere previously in the Silmarillion?
The question is: What changed because the one ring was surrendered to its source?
I have loved how the themes and patterns of LOTR and other Tolkien works melt together with other perennial philosophies. But I need more insight into the story and patterns , since I have only read it 3-4 times.
For both Frodo and Gollum, the change was a release from the craving and self-hatred that developed from having/using the ring. Do we know if Bilbo felt the same relief? Do we know if all the bearers of the 7, 9 and 3 rings felt a shift from a craving or pull?
The 9 were basically evaporated and released from the wraith status, right?
In your opinion, was the surrender of the ring a u
Often, when reading, a phrase just leaps out and smacks me. A regular author might say that Tuor and Veronwe listened intently, but Mr Tolkien says, "No word they spoke; all their head was in their ears." From Unfinished Tales. I love it so much! All their head was in their ears.
Aredhel: I'm bored and restless. I'm leaving.
Turgon: I'm loath, and foresee bad things if you do....
Aredhel: Don't care, I'm going where I want, and even more so because you don't want me to.
Eol: I forbid any dealings with the Noldor. You will obey or I will set you in bonds.
Maeglin: To himself, Oh yeah? Well we'll see about that. Mom, let's secretly break out of this place while Dad's away.
Turgon: Welcome Eol, but now that you are here, I'm the King and you can't leave.
Eol: Oh, yeah? You think so? I acknowledge not your law, but Maeglin, I command you to leave with me.
Maeglin: glaring but silent.
Eol: fine! If
I thought it was a book on psychology, but it's on Japanese esthetic and it immediately captured my attention. Then when the author (translated into English) began describing things like the black lacquerware, the use of gold, how the shadowy light brings out the luster of the gold, the food, the presentation of the food and tea, I felt the same transporting quality I feel when reading certain Tolkien passages.
The beauty of the language and description just stops the mind, and settles the nervous system. I have been looking for another author that does it, and this was quite by accident. That's probably how I will have to find these books or authors that accomplish this meditative
I had shared with some friends a few years ago that I was adventuring through Tolkien and recently one friend asked me if I had finished. I laughed inside because I also once thought one could finish with Tolkien. I will never be finished and wouldn't want to be finished. (Even after sailing to the west)
But it has not been satisfying to explore the academic side of things, or the games or the "what if's" of the stories. I am captured by the music people have created, the art, and the stunning quality of Tolkien's writing itself.
Using the art, music, the books, the prose and poetry, the visualizations as a spiritual practice is very appealing since leaving my previous high demand reli
Two musicals came out when I was a child, Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. Godspell seemed much less offensive and never used the name Jesus , so I could love it, but JCS was pure evil and blasphemy and one needed to feel guilty for even wanting to see it.
Some of the songs are popping up since it's Easter and I realized I can watch it with no guilt and maybe even love it as just a beautifully told myth.
That it be a musical and every time music or singing is mentioned, we get the music. Seems like somewhere there is singing in the midst of battle.
Mar 25. Sam and Rosie's first baby. 2 yrs after the War of the Ring. Yay. Elanor.
Hmm. I can't edit the title but I would, to get the spelling correct. I'm one of those types who want to be spell-corrected (by humans)
