Hello everyone. I do not know how unusual it is for a guy to love Wuthering Heights, but I certainly do. Gothic romances/tragedies are kinda my thing. I've know about the book as long as I can remember, and despite being a constant reader of classical literature, I never read this one. Well, about time, I figured, given the recent movie that came out. However, in what is one of my bad habits, I watched and read too much about of the book and movie reviews, which inevitably led me to witness one person just casually mentioning how Heathcliffe digs up a grave, Cathy becomes a ghost? Assumingly she dies?
In any case, I wanted to slam my head through the wall for, as I did dozens of times befo
Read the TLDR at the bottom if you just want to get to the point of agreement.
Preface and my intention with this post:
I should make it clear that I am not here to debate or argue. I understand that reddit and the online world in general has a fair share of people that will hate you and want to debate you no matter if you are kind or rude, and no matter the topic. I believe if you take the time to read my post, you will come off with the conclusion I am here to spread positivity. With that said:
It is no surprise that this movie attracted all sorts of attention online. I personally do not want to get into the whole argument and debate over the look of the movie (armor, colors,
Long story short; I've never watched the show; I've never read the books. This might have been asked before, but I have to get some thoughts on this.
GoT has been a known part of the general public zeitgeist for close to two decades now. Naturally, with such a major fantasy series (and show), avoiding spoilers is pretty hard. Now while I managed to avoid them for a long while, given the fact that I'm usually in fantasy-related communities (read a lot of Tolkien) and that everyone and their mother seems to have watched GoT, it was pretty inevitable for something like this to happen. What certainly didn't help is the fact that a bunch of fantasy related content (that wasn't related to GoT) I
I'm in the market for a Roadmaster, something akin to the one worn by Pierce Brosnan here, with the waxed black look and the olive-brown collar lining.
I've managed to narrow it down to the fact that it is a 2012 model, shortly after the company was sold by Malenotti. However, here's where it gets tricky. By 2012, even though Belstaff was not Italian owned anymore, and many little quirks and differences were visible (like the more pronounced buttons compared to the Malenotti era), the jackets were still made in Italy. By 2013 all models, although they looked exactly the same as the ones from the previous year and were owned by the same pe
Alright, I figure that this question has probably been asked a few times. I have spent years researching various deluxe illustrated editions of the Lord of the Rings (and The Hobbit). The fact that we get a beautiful new edition 1-2 times a year doesn't help in getting to the bottom of this.
From what I can tell, Folio Society's incredibly premium and very limited deluxe set, which is sold out and can be found on Ebay for $6,000-$9,000, is by far the most incredible edition anyone can own, it's also very big, more of the size of a prestigious art book (at least twice in length as the average book), which I really love.
However, I won't be able to spend 10k on a couple of books anytime soo
I've been trying to find primary sources on this, and I would appreciate any help. I've encountered some strange theories from obvious closet neo-nazis, which is the first huge red flag, where it is said how the Slavs were never seen as subhuman, and were part of the "six races" established with the Nuremberg Laws in 1935 as Aryan and German-worthy. This to me seems awfully contradictory considering the most amount of people killed by the Germans were Slavic. I did find some documents pertaining to be against Soviet Slavs, which makes we wonder, what was their view on Serbians? and did they really think the Ustashe were that bad? I would assume not considering they didn't do anything about
As many of you, I'm beyond excited for this remaster, it's basically perfect, I have to admit I might have actually started tearing up watching the reveal panel, especially when the soundtrack hit.
However, with the internet being the internet, with a lot of contrarians and ragebaiters everywhere, apparently this game is "UE5 slop" "120 gigabytes of an unoptimized mess (the game wasn't even out when these comments were coming out)" etc. Can't you just enjoy the game for what it is? But I get it, hating on stuff gives a dopamine spike, and some people like that. Doesn't make it any less cringe and insufferable though.
I guess this is a wider problem, no matter what comes out you'll have som
NOTE: I am talking about systematic philosophy, that is, the study of the systems of philosophy such as ethics, metaphysics, logic, etc. NOT historical philosophy, which is the study of philosophers throughout history, but I already have Copleston's legendary 11-volume set on The History of Philosophy (which in my opinion is the greatest work on the history of philosophy of all time), so I'm covered in that regard. Some books I came across so far with regards to systematic philosophy:
METAPHYSICS
• J.L. Ackrill - Aristotle the Philosopher
• G. Manetti - Theories of the Sign in Classical Antiquity
General and Contemporary Metaphysics
• M.J. Loux - Metaphysics: A Contempor
I'll keep it short. I've been watching this channel on and off for years since they had good multi-hour documentaries on one of my favorite periods of history, the Crusades.
However, in the past month from not only the videos put out, but also personal comments from the channel, one thing is obvious, the channel and all of its daily followers have become a circle jerk for anti-Byzantinism and the HRE. People are shamelessly mocking the events of 1204 and consider them completely justified, and the entire channel has become a mouthpiece for defending the HRE. Any opinions not of this nature are mocked and removed, and there's been a surge of videos on "Why the Byzantines were evil because X
As far as I know, there's a Dolby mix of the movie, and an official partnership (as seen here, and here).
However, I can only find regular tickets and IMAX tickets, with absolutely no sign of a Dolby screening anywhere? Does anyone know what's going on? Keep in mind I live in a big city with tons of theaters that regularly show Dolby screenings. I saw Alien Romulus a few months ago in Dolby and it was really amazing. Dolby is my favorite and go-to movie-going experience, it'd be a real shame to miss out on Gladiator 2 in the same regard.
First of all, the remake is amazing, even though I played the original I can confidently say the remake is an improvement in almost every way, but there's a few bewildering choices that I cannot get over with.
Most notably the In Water ending - "Now we can be together" hits like a truck even 23 years later, but it's completely excluded in the remake. What's weird is that Luke Roberts's performance as James is Oscar-equivalent worthy, and this line would be very fitting for his more nuanced depressing depiction. I don't understand why they decided to drop it. There's a few more lines that were removed that could have only added to his character, and I don't get why they were removed.
