Here’s the completed set on the bookshelf.

I’d been looking for a while at various hardcover versions of Tolkien’s masterwork. Everyone here know how hard it is to chose one. Thanks to suggestions from u/recursionaskance, I ended up picking up a copy of the 2014 anniversary edition of the Lord of the Rings brand new in cellophane and it’s gorgeous.

As fortune would have it, I got a job offer literally the same day the boxed set arrived, so to celebrate I set about completing the set. I found The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales in varying editions but all of which matched the size and aesthetic of the LOTR set. Everything lines up perfectly

Virtually no masks to be seen in any public space

Many chain businesses had signs asking you to mask up, which had maybe 25% compliance or less

Old people couldn’t have given less of a shit

The only businesses we wore masks in were Total Wine & More, and CVS

Most local bars and restaurants had removed mask-related signage, employees still mostly complied

during the late December trip mask compliance was token at best. Limited to chains and wearing masks briefly before being seated at restaurants.

By April it was a similar story to F

Edit: Thank you everyone in this thread for all your input.

I’ve been doing research for months on which hardcover set to finally upgrade to and I’ve sort of hit a wall.

Tolkien box sets seem to get lots of unboxing videos but the people that make them never seem to go into any real helpful detail on the contents and the vids end up feeling like lame show and tell. I have the opportunity to grab one of three sets and I’m wondering what you all think of them.

One of them is the 1988/1992 box set with the large fold out maps.

Another is the [4 book 60th anniversary edition](https://images-na.ssl-i
