"After much discussion, we have determined how we are going to prepare to move forward. Humanity will eventually contact our galactic neighbors, that much is almost certain. However, we do not expect that contact to be smooth or in fact peaceful. Too much of humanity is against the very values our neighbors hold close, so there may come a time where they may decide that the use of force is the way to bring us in line with their goals. With that, we have decided that every single adult human, whether they be Earth-born, Mars-born, space born or Belter, will be required to have at a minimum some military training, and frequent testing to ensure that should the need arise, every single human ca

Captain’s log, possibly final entry.

As previously reported, the Ancient Danger attached itself to our ship when we were surveying the oort cloud to find an icy asteroid that we could use to fill our fuel tanks, as we had run low on fuel and we... I felt it was best to fill up while we could instead of risking running completely out enroute to a station. I knew the risks, but now my crew has to pay the price. I thought the oort cloud would be safer, the Ancient Danger normally prefers the warmer inner asteroid belts! It should have been safe! The main reactor went offline nearly 10 minutes ago and the backups never started. We know that once our reactor is cold, the warmth of our bodies wil

Yesterday and up until I left for work, I could easily get to L6 level 4500-5000, but I had to turn off data while I was at work because I went really, really over data on my cell phone. Since this morning, I've been lucky if I can get past level 3500, with roughly the same perks as usual. Is this normal?
I am on version 0.21.19

I am still at the point where my build is defense focused, so I respeced and put almost no coins into the Attack tab (I stopped at Range because I needed at least that maxed for my orbs).

YEAH, no. Bad idea. I didn't make it past T4 W900 (was doing ~3500 before) I sure hope I can start making coins again to fix my mistake!

I have a lot of robots, more than enough to handle any emergency. So is there a way that I can keep my robots training in their ML Booths, no matter what happens? (Or until I manually kick them out/they max level a skill?)

They keep leaving for every single little thing it seems like (even under direct control) and I just want some level 10 tracked mining robots!

My wife is translating (and I am helping as best as I can) family Bible entries and a few Bible cards from an old family Bible from Ukranian immigrants (came over in 1904), were from Wisłok Dolny and purchased the Bible in Moon Run, PA in 1914

She came across a card with the title "Sunday School Science" (or "Science of Sunday School," she's not sure about the word order), and for the life of us we can't come to an agreement on what date this says:

The only Sunday the 18th in 1917 were in February, March and November.

"Humanity now has an answer to the question that has been on our mind ever since the first human looked up to the stars. We are not alone in this universe, and in fact, the galaxy seems to be teeming with life. As we celebrate, we must temper that joy with a bit of caution, as the civilizations beyond our lone star that we call home have chosen peace and stability over change and advancement. As a people, we need to discuss the very real possibility that we may need to make the choice between meeting our galactic neighbors and giving up many of the advancements that we now take for granted or keeping the advancements that have given humanity the longest stretch of peace and prosperity that w

People of HFY, I'm sorry but I had to. I wrote this 5 years ago due to all the talk of pancakes thanks to u/bellumaster's "Interactive Education" series got my mind running and it would not rest until this was written down. 5 years later, I see that pancakes and princesses are still enjoyed, thanks to u/PepperAntique's "Wait, is this just GATE?" so I figured I might as well just post instead of letting this sit here on my computer ignored and unloved... like pretty much everything else I write :)

2152, deep space, 24 light-hours away from Sol, two ships sit 18,00,000km from each other. One, the USN Konovalo, has extended over a dozen small satellites from it and is sending laser pulses between the ship and the satellites, and has a number of large dishes, telescopes and antennas directed at the other ship, the USN Ben Rich.

Deep inside the Konovalo, Captain Ryan is studying the image on his tablet that shows the Ben Rich's thermal view from the long range telescopes showing the ship's thermal signature slowly lowering towards the 50 Kelvin goal. He swiped a few more times, stepping through the RADAR and optical images of the vessel over the past hour as the crew stowed

My parents told me a story that their parents told them, and so on through the ages that around a thousand years ago, one of my ancestors, himself a great wizard, was obsessed with plane shifting and learned a great many things, including never eat a synonym roll before performing magic, lest you end up in a metal tube flying through the air instead of another realm.

On one trip, so the legends go, my ancestor met a wild haired wizard who called himself a "scientist" and he taught my ancestor the power of M'K. While my ancestor didn't completely understand what he was talking about, he still managed to understand some concepts. For months afterwards, he studied and researched

In the doctor's office at the Taurian embassy in Chicago, a caramel brown minotaur with large polished white horns sits on an examination table while a fellow Taurian, white and black spotted with much shorter white and brown streaked horns, looks at an x-ray clipped onto an illumination board.

"Why did you go into the wilderness without shoes? We have boots and shoes for a reason!" The doctor more asked himself as he shook his head, still looking at the x-ray.

"Yeah, that was stupid." the bull on the table sheepishly replied, rubbing his right horn slightly. "I was going out with a heif who was a naturalist and, there she wanted to go on a weekend getaway to a nudist camp and well," the b

I'm looking at getting a Shapeoko XXL soon and was considering getting the version with a Dewalt router, BUT I saw that I could get a water cooled spindle motor for not significantly more (relatively speaking), I was wondering if that would be a better idea. I like the idea of more power, better control and potentially much quieter. Is there any reason NOT to go this way from the start?

So my co-worker and I were talking and he was threatening to post if I didn't. Something about copyright, but it's been done before.Fall is coming. Frat parties are coming. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are coming. So why not mix them?

Pumpkin spice Irish whisky espresso/latte shots. My initial idea was for something akin to a keg with pre-mixed pumpkin spice latte without alcohol, but then I thought it needed alcohol, so here's where I am.He suggested that you warm the Irish whiskey and layer it, whiskey on the bottom, use a spoon and carefully layer the espresso on top of it, foamed milk on top and a sprinkling of seasoning/cinnamon on top.I am not sure which I find more amusing, parties of people

Let's say you are writing about sending out a seedship that will grow people when it reaches it's location, so they will have no pre-conceived notions about measurements or standards. There are no cryogenic crew, everything is run by AI/computer.

Would you re-write the metric system? Like, the speed of light is 1,000,000 KM/s, 100 hours with 100 minutes with 100 seconds for a total of 1,000,000 seconds in a Standard day? (Then, of course, figure out the base units from those definitions)

If the seedship was the first in a series of seedships sent out at the collapse/failure of the homeworld, and they all can communicate with each other, do you have a separate galactic standard and loca
