I've put together a couple of Linux web servers. I like the command line. I've built LFS.
But I figured maybe I could replace Windows 7 on my desktop (a PC with perfect hardware support) without dicking around. I wanted to see what Ubuntu's like without opening a terminal. See if I could recommend Ubuntu, the best Linux distribution, for use on family and friends' computers and not have to worry about providing an untenable amount of tech support for every little thing.
I installed Ubuntu 12 LTS, updated, and opened up the "app store". Looked at some games and decided to install xboard, a nice simple little chess program.
The app store proceeded to hang half way through the installation.
