Thinking about something I can play in short sessions where I can relax and increase my money/influence/base by simply managing it well. Ideally something with simple graphics to save on battery and loading times.

I recently retried Stardew Valley, and it's just so stressful to be on the clock. You can't stop running for a second. And I can't beat the volcano, too hard.

Atelier Nelke was fun, but it's also not endless and I finished it already.

I love the X games, but X4 really doesn't run well on the Deck. I frequently have crashes. Same with M&B:Bannerlord.

Starsector doesn't have gamepad support.

Will I just have to go back to Recettear? Moonlighter 1 was ok

So I've unlocked the jetpack yesterday, and flying with it until it struggles toggles the rumble. It will keep shaking until the next time you try to fly.

Deck compatibility update

:knock: question/help

So I've been playing this game on Deck at release and it worked fine with custom key bindings.

Now, since February, I can't use keyboard inputs at all anymore. I can only map a limited number of gamepad buttons in-game, and for example Zoom is none of them. I can't restore my previous input scheme, as keyboard inputs aren't accepted.

The default settings for deck seem to rely purely on the steam display magnifying glass function(???), and don't let you zoom into rooms at all.

This means I can't even play with M&KB in desktop mode.

I can't be the only one, right?

So this might be a very weird and specific requirement, but I love games that, on the surface, present a core gameplay loop, but as you keep playing, you notice how things aren't quite right. So you actively have to go out of your way to investigate, and find the hidden ways to break out, but if you don't, then the world should still be perfectly liveable.

The point is that the player themselves must make a conscious effort to break out of an environment. It shouldn't be the next step on a quest log or a progression blocker.

Inscryption is a prime example, because you could just play it indefinitely, without realizing there's more than act 1.

Outer Wilds counts as well. You ca

Anyone else having trouble playing with a controller? I'm playing on the Steam Deck, and it's 90% great, but sometimes it throws a big wrench into the flow.

The worst issue is the cursor position sometimes randomly snapping to the top left, which in the shop screen is "open shop", making a misclick really costly. I've accidentally opened the unprepared shop when I wanted to save, and the cursor snapped.

Sometimes, the cursor seems to get trapped outside the screen, meaning I have to tap the screen to get back in. Especially noticeable during card play, where the keys will stop working until I tap the screen to get back in. If the Deck didn't have a touch screen I'd be stranded.

I'm playing on the Steam Deck, and 99% of the time it works perfectly.

When I'm transferring soldiers between vehicles and base, I press Y, and the little destination list won't let me select the top entry by inputting directions. I have to resort to touch controls every time.

When I'm planning who joins a mission, and I open one soldier's profile, the cursor is stuck in the top left inventory slot.

Not a deal breaker, I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything, or if there's a workaround/mod for it.

The skin tone, braids, and shirt with a motif, in addition to her being a teacher. No sign of Noodle, though.

I can't tell if it's my TLT brainrot taking over, or my daughter's Cocomelon brainrot affecting me, it's just an interesting parallel I noticed.

[WSIB] Incremental games

[SteamDeck] :steam:

I love long games where the gameplay evolves the longer you play. Factorio is a big one, as you progress it continuously scales up, making you expand exponentially. Unfortunately, I'm really bad with the gamepad controls. X4: Foundations is fantastic too, the more money you make, the more traders and factories you can buy to expand. That one crashes regularly on Deck, causing frustrations, so I'm dropping it. I'm looking for long games, where the savegames is my personal pet. If the run can "end" or "fail", I don't want it. I also want to actively play, so no idle games like cookie clicker. And of course it needs proper gamepad support.

So I was thinking, is "Isabeau" just the male version of "Isabelle"? Like, the French word for "pretty", but in the female and male version?

That's certainly something a "jock" would come up with, right?

It just occurred to me, we learn that this Death Stranding and subsequent mass extinction aren't the first in Earth's history. You'd think that, lacking advanced tech such as BBs, animals would get caught in Voidouts en masse, severely altering the shape of the landscape.

But actually no, the Timefall would pretty much kill anything that even approaches a BT. Animals don't have plastic capes or Timefall shelters. It is entirely possible that humans are the first cases of Voidouts.

But then how do aquatic life forms in the presumed first DS look like? What about a DS in a rainforest, where Timefall might be dampened by the trees? Or is the current DS unique due to Amelie/Sam? Couldn't an EE

I have used my Deck both handheld, and docked as a desktop gaming PC. When docked, I used the internal speakers, as my monitor doesn't have audio.

Recently, around the last OS Update, my Deck started automatically switching the audio to "external device" when docked. But even when I manually select the speakers in the audio settings again, it stays completely silent.

I have fiddled with the audio settings, both in Deck and Desktop mode, and tried headphones etc, but I can not get the internal speakers to produce sound while docked, anymore.

Handheld, with headphones, and docked on my tv with sound over HDMI, all works perfectly fine. It's just that my desktop PC configuration doesn't

WSIB Vehicle-based Journey

[SteamDeck] :steam:

I'm looking for a game where you make a long journey in a vehicle. Gameplay should stay in control of the character, even inside the vehicle, and you'd have to occasionally get out to gather things or resources for your vehicle. Not just a means of transportation, but a physical space, mobile inventory, and "home base". I want to pick up boxes in the world and put them into the vehicle, or something like that. I love the comfy feeling of stopping at the side of the road to take a look around.

Jalopy was great, especially how much control you had over the car parts, and how to salvage wrecked cars.

The Aurora Wager was cool too, because the controls of the balloon are so immersive.
