I am looking to upgrade my living room system and my first purchase is going to be a new set of speakers. I'm open to floorstanding speakers. I have the space for floorstanders, but bookshelves seem to be the best option for quality sound within my budget. I will hook up the system to my tv, but it is going to be used 95% for music with a subwoofer in the system. My music taste is pretty eclectic, but mostly nu-blue, classic rock, and some modern classical, especially strings.

I am considering purchasing some Klipsch Reference Premier floor speakers for a listening room/man cave I am building. Their primary (95%) use will be for music. My question is, if I am 100% certain that I will be using a subwoofer, would I get a better overall sound by purchasing the model with the 8” or 6” woofers? Or even the 5” woofers?

My understanding is that for woofers larger than 5-6”, midrange frequencies start to suffer. Could I get a better overall sound with 5” or 6” woofers than with 8” woofers as long as the system includes a subwoofer?

Looking to purchase some bookshelves for a medium (15x15 ft) room. I am located in the US with a $500 max budget for the bookshelves and I intend to purchase a sub at a later date. Amazon.com is where I will most likely make my purchase.

I went to a couple local stereo shops and one speaker I heard that I was really liked was the Klipsch r-620f floor speakers (couldn’t find any Reference Premiers or bookshelves with 6” woofers to listen to in person). Due to space concerns, floor speakers aren’t an option for this room. I am considering a Klipsch RP-160m with a sub as an alternative to the r-620f. Would this a viable alternative for achieving a similar sound?
