i think i've got a failing drive and the "first aid" from the disk utility just tells me the disk is verified. i don't trust something so dumbed down to give me the complete answer, is there a "real" hard drive testing app out there?

I've spent the last few days fighting with my two mac labs to get them ready for some testing. part of it includes adding the app to the dock, which is one of the things that kids are always shrinking/enlarging/hiding/moving/deleting

i had been trying to use a combination of dockutil for the configuration and setting the size/contents/positions as immutable in the com.apple.Dock plist. to put it simply this method sucked. i'd have to rerun scripts three or four times before the settings would stick. i'm pretty comfortable using scripts on linux computers but using them in macOS makes me want to throw the computer out the window.

after googling around i saw on a JAMF forum thread about [Doc
