Hey everyone, I recently decided I want to start growing my hair out as I’ve always kind of wanted to try long hair, 

My question is what should I ask my barber for, to help it stay looking decent/manageable during the shorter and awkward phases?  
I currently ask for a burst fade up to a 2, and then leave about 2 inches on top that I hand comb over, and just use hair gel to hold it in place

I’m kind of new to hair care, so advice on that would also be very appreciated as in other things I should be using, like oils, etc,

I’m in the process of catching back up on my debt after some job issues, I was literally days away from sending a payment for this consolidation loan I had, and it just got charged off.
