Hi everyone,

I am a regular salaried employee, and I have a yearly bonus paid in February, which is a performance bonus for the previous calendar year. I also have a letter from my company that states the bonus is for the 2025 calendar year, and they have a history of paying the bonus to anyone (even those who have resigned) who is employed on the 31st December.

It would be in my interest if I could apportion part of my bonus to the 2024/25 tax year, and my understanding is that HMRC would like the bonus to be attributed to the period it is earned, not the period it is paid.

Is my understanding correct?

How would I go about changing my previous tax return?

Thanks for your help

Hi frequent flyers,

I'm currently gold status but live in the UK. My membership year ends December 31, and I have enough status credits to renew gold, but I have only taken 1 Qantas flight this year (due to living in the UK). I have 4 more Qantas flights booked for travel home in February/March.

Has anyone had any luck getting a status renewal granted when not meeting the flight requirement? Any tips or tricks?

I tried the frequent flyer call centre but the person who answered said they have no ability to extend or renew gold status.

I (28f) was at a family get together with my bf (28m) and his family today.

His grandmother, who has late stage dementia, called me over and told me I looked like I had a little bump. I laughed and said I'd just been enjoying too many leftovers from Christmas. Obviously the dementia impacts her.

What I couldn't believe though is that my bf's grandfather, father and another women (50s) picked up the topic and kept pushing me that I do look like I am growing a bump and whether I have any announcements to make.

To add insult to injury, I have endometriosis. I have no idea whether I can even get pregnant and it's flaring up at the moment causing pain and bloating.

I'm sure we've all seen a number of posts recently asking about how people can 'invest' in or trade options, normally American options. I can only guess that this has been prompted by the recent market volatility and the fact that a few people have made a lot of money speculating on market moves.

So, is it possible to make money trading options? Absolutely, here's just one example. Flow traders aren't alone, almost every high frequency trading / market making firm has had an outstanding start to the year in terms of profits, primarily from options trading.

I'll be moving across the ditch soon to Australia and trying to figure out the most tax efficient ways to invest. Apparently temporary residents in Australia are exempt from paying tax on foreign income including not paying CGT on non 'taxable Australian property'

New Zealanders are issued a temporary visa (SCV) and as long as they arrived after 2001 (and don't have an Australian spouse) are not considered Australian residents.

It seems sensible that I should take advantage of this exemption to avoid CGT i

So a couple of people asked me to make a comparison that showed the best way to invest in the US stock market. I compared investing in VTS through ANZ online sharebroking, investing in US 500 via smartshares (USF) and investing in the superlife S&P 500 fund. All these track the exact same etf (VTI).

Before I present the results, I want to share a couple of assumptions:

  • 6.86% real growth per year with 0 variation, for ease of understanding (remember: past results don't indicate future performance)
  • The investment was made monthly (or when there there was more than $10,000 in the bank for ANZ investments)
  • All funds perfectly track VTI (and perfectly efficient currency markets i.e. N

We're coming over to the sunshine coast next week (flying into good coast airport) and want a day in Brisbane but don't want to pay the ridiculous car park fees. Are there any free park and rides where we can just take a bus/train into the city?

Also if you have any suggestions on what to do for a day I'd really appreciate it. We were thinking about making our own river cruise by taking the city cat ferry up and down the river
