Hi folks,

I'm posting this with the mods' permission. To be clear, this is NOT a promotion.

I'm a hobby photographer; my day job is digital marketing, and I specialize in working with small businesses like many of you. I have delurked to help with business questions in this sub on occasion. A few months ago, I decided to diversify and write a few ebooks. There are many books about marketing. There are many books about digital marketing. There aren't many books about digital marketing for professional photographers.

Which brings me to this post: As a serious photographer, I'm familiar with the photography business. But it's always wise to actually talk to business owners and get the info

I've been working on an intro to digital marketing ebook for awhile now, and am getting close to the finish line. I need to start thinking about titles now.

Seeing as you all are my target audience, you are the best group to get opinions on whether these titles would be effective. And if not, please let me know.

I'm finally getting my book closer to the finished state, and I need to start thinking about title and subtitle. A bunch of self-publishing guides suggest polling people to see which titles will be the most effective. I am hoping you fine folks will help me out.

I poked around here, in KDP's helpfiles, and the forums, and couldn't find an answer to this.

When you bundle books, can you manually set a price? If I have a $4.99 book and $2.99 book, can I manually select to sell it at $6.99 thus incentivizing people to buy these books as a set? Or will Amazon just add those two figures up and set the price at $7.98?

I'm not quite ready to start doing this; just thinking ahead.

Hi folks, I'm a little rusty with CMS. I've been asked to proof a document using that style guide, and I'm not sure what the correct format is for citing a prose extract at the start of a chapter, and I can't find it in my book.

This is how the author has it:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nam scelerisque leo sem, ut auctor purus pulvinar sit amet. Vestibulum ut lacus dapibus, lacinia massa id, tempor risus. Curabitur efficitur laoreet sapien, quis cursus tortor pharetra non. Sed maximus finibus vehicula. Curabitur ullamcorper semper orci vitae feugiat. Morbi ut nibh eu lectus pharetra luctus sit amet id massa. Cras ultrices efficitur accumsan. Donec vulputa

I did search but couldn't find a solid answer.

I was inspired by someone's post last month and wrote a business book. It's almost done. I have a couple more sections to flesh out, then a long checklist of prep work to finalize things. Getting there, tho! But I have a potential snag. Maybe? Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

Does anyone know what Amazon's stance is on very similar author names? Like:

  • Sue Smith
  • Susan Smith

I don't want them to think I'm trying to game the system. Professionally I go by my full name, and in daily life, I go by my abbreviated name. It's a way for me to keep things a little separate.

So, with that in mind, I ideally would like to publish my business book u

I apologize in advance for a vague post -- I'm not clear on all the details.

My uncle has been dealing with a chronic infection in his shoulder, possibly related to his bone cancer, which is, while present, not actively growing. The infection keeps coming back, and each time (I think, not 100% sure) it has been a different type. One type was a form of staph, and not sure what the other was.

He is running out antibiotics to try. His doctors have said that a forequarter amputation is likely the inevitable outcome.

I know the experts here can't say for sure based on vague information, but does this sound like he could be a candidate for phage treatment/therapy? Is this something I should p

Hi folks,

I've a stock 2001 Cherokee (XJ). I want to do more road tripping, hiking, and camping this year, and being able to use the cargo area will be helpful. Right now, it's hair too short for me, even on diagonal.

I've been thinking about taking out the back seat (the butt-sitting part that folds up and forward) to gain a few extra inches when the seatback is folded down flat. If I can take that part out, I'll gain about 4-5 inches, which will make the cargo area more comfortable to bunk in. Plus I can hide some valuables (camera gear) in that space beneath.

I googled a bit for info, but couldn't find much. I'm very new to modding. Is there a handy-dandy resource that tells me how t

I posted a few months ago about publishing a knitting pattern book through Amazon. I've investigated, and think it's an underdeveloped market because there aren't a lot of indie pattern designers there. Plus the fact that I don't have to deal with Paypal is appealing. However the downsides are the site is a PITA to navigate/find particular books and they don't sell pdfs, which some knitters prefer.

Anyway! These are my questions:

I know you can "bundle" books -- sell a serial set of books in a group. Can I sell a particular book in multiple bundles, like...

  • Bundle 1 - book A, B, and C
  • Bundle 2 - book A, K, and R
  • Bundle 3 - book A, Y, and Z.

Or does Amazon not like it when you bundl

I've looked at the manual, and can't figure where I'm going wrong. The relevant bit is on p148, but it doesn't answer my questions.

I'd like to take product pics, and can't afford a model atm, so I'm using myself. I have a wired shutter release. My wireless one's battery died awhile ago (need to find replacement). In the meantime:

In remote mode, the 3-second delay doesn't seem to work. It focuses and takes a picture when I press the shutter, both in regular remote and delayed 3sec mode. The wired remote is only 4-5 ft long, and I need time to get into the shot.

I have tried turning C3 - AF with remote on and off, no effect.

What am I missing?

I'm not sure if anyone can offer advice. Though my parents are/were seniors, in their mid-70s, they are generally healthy for their age. As such, dad's death was very sudden and unexpected. Bicycling accident.

Mom was codependent on him. She's struggling on several levels. I think she'd benefit from therapy, but she balks because she's a bit old school. "What good will talking about it do?" Pastor is no-go because she doesn't want her church buddies to find out. And yet she continues to have random breakdowns, struggles to make decisions on her own, and on top of everything, she's also having some memory losses, which Dad and I noticed ~2 years ago, and chronic health problems.

I do what

Hi folks,

I'm working on creating knitting patterns, and am leaning toward self-publishing it through Amazon instead of Ravelry (a pattern catalogue website for knitters) for a couple reasons, one of which is they use only Paypal for their payment platform, and I refuse to give Paypal my business.

I did a cursory search, but reddit's search engine, alas, is still wonky. The last time I investigated, a couple of years ago, Amazon/kindle couldn't incorporate a couple features: tables and intra-document linking. Has this changed?

Tables: By this, I don't mean TOC, but rather ...

Alright, folks. I looked around, but didn't see anyone asking for assessment on this particular SW cast shot; if I missed it, apologies!

I'm not usually a huge fan of Leibovitz' stuff, but I really like this picture of Hamill and Fisher.

I usually can figure out the post processing for various pictures, but this one has me stumped. Some sort of Draganizer effect with dodge/burn? What do you think?

Once upon a time, there was a writer who needed a book cover for his book. Because he was visiting Albuquerque in the near future, he figured he'd post in the Alb. subreddit, promising exposure in exchange for the work.

Another user pointed out that "exposure" wouldn't pay the bills, and the writer proceeded to flip out, using choice phrases like "someone either has the tiniest dick in ABQ and/or the biggest frustrated and inflamed clitoris" and "OMG! Consumer capitalist culture is bringing me down"

He also mentioned the name of publisher he was working for.

Well. I was greatly amused, screen-capped the conversation, and fired it off to the publisher. They have given me the permission

Hi folks,

I have a question about poplar. Based on research online and here in this sub, this wood isn't ideal for staining (moreso for an amateur, I'm sure), and the lovely green/purple stain in the wood will eventually turn brown, which bums me out - I like the effect. I love wood, and am not a fan of painted wood in general. The poplar I have is a nice pale cream, very finely grained, with minor streaks of green/purple. Really beautiful.

So, this is my question, which I haven't been able to figure out because most of the search results were about how it's hard to stain poplar evenly:

What clear finish should I use to protect the wood, if any? This finish should not have a residue bec
