Hello,

My wife, who is Chinese, has what's colloquially known as 'asian flush' - she's unable to process alcohol and can only drink very small amounts before she gets red and develops headaches and tiredness.

Recently, we found out that she is pregnant. However, she was drinking a little during the time of conception - only small amounts of course (like a single cocktail per day), given her inability to handle any more than that.

What I'd like to know is if her asian flush condition, which enhances the effect of alcohol on her, might in any way also enhance the effect on the baby? ie. if her body is unable to break down alcohol normally, does this mean that more alcohol reaches the baby

As you might expect, my answer to this question is a firm yes, but I'm interested in what other people think, and if there's a reason for making the leveling process so slow beyond 'Hearthstone does it'.

I understand the logic: gating cards and generals allows players to get to grips with each faction's unique playstyle and mechanics in a gradual way without getting overwhelmed. Which made sense for the first faction, but now I'm trying to level up my second one and it already feels incredibly slow. I'm getting introduced to new cards every time I open an orb and I can handle that just fine. I really don't think this level of hand-holding is needed.

I mentioned hearthstone earlier and wh

I know that usually with questions like this the answer people give is some variant of "Blizzard are lazy/incompetent/greedy." But surely they must at least be aware that nowadays many people move from one region to another and have friends from across the world too, and that this is an easy opportunity to make money?

By all means charge me for transferring regions Blizzard, the same way you do for swapping servers on WoW (or at least, that's how it worked last I checked, long ago). I'd happily pay $10-20 to switch regions, and I'm sure others would too. But at least give me the option; it's absolutely ridiculous that I can move my entire life from one side of the globe to another quite eas

...I mean in terms of their entrance, of course. My boy Bolvar is pretty top-tier (if you can buff him enough), but otherwise it's a total shitshow. Poor visuals and almost no memorable dialogue (the number of mechs doesn't help of course).

The original packs had tons of cards that got the right mix of flashy entrance, powerful, dialogue and a certain 'y'all be fucked now' je ne sais que. Now though we either get crappy versions of existing entrances (neptulon), pretty but unintimidating effects (malorne) or, most often, almost nothing.

Even allowing for all the mechs, the lack of any good entrance lines is particularly poor. "I dream and the world trembles" and "by fire be purged" are b

I hear people saying that Black Knight is "out of the meta", and I certainly see it a lot less, but I have no idea why. I still play him and get value from him in almost every game. Here's a simple list of reasons why I think he's still an auto-include in several decks

A) Belcher hasn't gone anywhere. Was it supposed to go somewhere?

B) Paladin is back: Quartermuster decks run Belchers, one or two Arguses (which will generally net you either a 3/6 or a 4/4) and, of course, Tirion. Plenty of value.

C) The element of surprise: Because other people aren't running Black Knight, I see far more opponents just casually taunting up giants for no reason than I used to when he was in almost every

Based on what little I know of dyslexia, it seems that dyslexia would be a far more formidable obstacle for people reading English (or similar) than for 人在阅读中文, as Chinese characters are far more distinct. Is this the case? Do Chinese (or other asian) dyslexics confuse similar characters (eg. 剪 and 前), struggle to remember correct stroke order etc?

My girlfriend is considering getting lasik. My initial instinct is to flinch, knowing what I do about the general state of Chinese hospitals/medicine. On the other hand, this is a modern, surgical procedure, and in theory at least it seems impossible to fuck it up by adding TCM bullshit.

So, anyone here who has had this done, or knows those who have, and can lend some advice?

The season is young, but it already seems like we have quite a high number of former punchlines who look reborn after a move. Bargs is the one bright spot on the Knicks, Monta have it a high amount of, Beasley is pulling up trees in Miami, the Lakers are quietly .500 with a team of rejects...

In light of this, who wouldn't change of scenery work for? Who are the guys you think will just never make it, or never fulfill their potential, no matter where they go?

I know it's cool and all to see the movies being linked together and progressing towards a galactic showdown against Thanos. But I'm a bit nervous about the idea of a bunch more films focusing on the gems (or the artifacts that become the gems, however it works) the way Captain American and Thor 2 did.

So far Marvel have gotten away with it, but we still have 4 gems to go. I hope they change their approach, because 4 more movies of 'bad guys and good guys fight over a superpowerful McGuffin' is going to get old.

Thor 2 is a great film, but Malekith is arguably the weakest thing about it, and I think that's because his focus is solely on getting, and using, the Aether. They could've told a

Posted this in r/teachers, it was suggested I crosspost here.

I'm working in a secondary school in Beijing, and I want to do a secondary English PGCE in 2014. I talked to some people at the Uni I want to go to in Birmingham and they agree I should be a strong candidate, but I need to meet their requirements for time spent observing/helping in a UK school.

So I had lined up some experience in a school for the week starting October 7th, but they cancelled because they have an inspection. So now here I am with my plane tickets purchased, my time off work booked, but no school to go to.

Can anyone offer me any advice on how to find a school that'll let me observe lessons? I'm coming all the
