I always hear SJW's yelling and screaming about "white privilege", but up until this year, I had never experienced any advantages in life over anyone else; in fact I grew up very poor and could argue that I have been disadvantaged by my own country in most aspects of life due to policies favouring minorities in scholarship awards, job applications, etc. over relevant skills and achievements. This year, I have been traveling all over Asia and have finally experienced this mythical "white privilege" that I keep hearing about, and it wasn't handed down by other white people. Rather, it seems Asian cultures are obsessed with white skin and will treat you better if you are white. For example, I h
Windows 8.1, Acer Nitro V15 laptop with Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 network card.
This is an odd issue, most of the time I have no problems connecting to a network, but once in a while, I come across a network that I cannot authenticate with despite having the correct passphrase. Today I am staying in a hotel, and I cannot connect to any of their routers, with windows saying "The network security key isn't correct" every time I try to connect to any of their 7 access points. My phone connected fine with the same password (tried connecting about 50 times on the laptop, even tried while spoofing the MAC address on my network card), and now I have to tether through my phone to use the internet
a few minutes ago a Vietnamese friend brought me lunch and one of the things she brought looked like a bowl of eyeballs in some sort of sauce. She doesn't speak much english and I don't speak much Vietnamese, so I couldn't understand what they were, only she laughed when I asked if they were eyeballs.. I found one picture that looks similar to what I saw on the internet here, but the blog it is from thought it was eyeballs too.. What is it? I asked what it was in Vietnamese, and she said something that sounded like gaf lao or ga flao.. I'm not really sure.
I have an Acer V15 Nitro laptop with an IPS screen. Lately I've noticed when browsing websites with a white background, or using any application where the screen is mostly white there appears to be an uneven oval shape in the middle of the screen where the screen is completely white, but outside the oval it is a yellowish-white colour instead of pure white like it is suppposed to be.. Here is an ms-paint drawing of the problem to give an idea. The black outline is just to show the uneveness of the oval shape that appears; the yellowish-white is the picture is very close to the actual colour that appears on the screen instead of actual white. The center of
I've been looking for something to kill the ants infesting my house for months with no luck. Seems like everywhere carries raid and other mosquito/cockroach/rat killing stuff, but nobody carries anything for ants, even though everyone seems to have an ant problem here...
We have a bunch of wooden furniture in our house with no seat cushions, I've looked around and the only places selling something that I could find were Lottemart and Vinmart, but both wanted 500,000+ VND for a very small (about 12" x 12") square foam cushion with a cheap-looking fabric covering.. Is there anywhere that sells these for a reasonable price?
Back in November 2014 it was all over the news that Vietnam would start recognizing International Driver's Licenses starting January 2015, but I cannot find any updates as to whether or not that is now actually the case.. So does anyone have any info on this? is my international permit legal here, or do I still have to get my DL translated to a local license to avoid any police trouble & travel insurance coverage issues if I get in an accident?
Just got scammed out of 400,000 VND by a cyclo-taxi driver named "Tony" in Saigon. I was out walking in District 1 looking for a laundromat since my hotel was not having laundry service for the next week due to Tet, but I was still hoping something would be open. This cyclo-taxi driver approached me and asked where I was going, and insisted that he knew a place that was open today, and basically took my bag and pushed me into his rickshaw. I asked the cost and he quickly just said "don't worry, very close only $1.50".. I have just came here from Cambodia where everywhere uses USD so I assumed that is what he meant as I told him I had just arrived from there. "Tony" also showed me a notebook
Just arrived in Vietnam and I see this everywhere, I know it has something to do with Tet, but I cannot get a proper translation.. Google Translate tells me this means "Mung Xuan Yi Smell - Down Glorious Gospel", while Bing translate says it means "Welcome To My House Smells - Welcome Surges Glory"... I cannot believe that either translation is correct and searching for other translations turns up nothing... it is a mystery.
I have been looking for short-term apartments to rent in HCMC, and have noticed that most are advertised in USD. Is it usual to have to pay for apartment rental in USD? Would these landlords also accept VND as an alternative? As far as I can tell all ATMs in Vietnam only dispense VND so it would be hard to get a lot of USD...
