I am employed at a retail business where tips are not customary. Despite this, we frequently dedicate a significant amount of time to offering exceptional customer service, such as individually packaging items for gifting purposes. This can sometimes be physically demanding and time-consuming. To illustrate, there are instances where I assist a single customer who spends less than $150, yet I devote 45 minutes navigating the store and stockroom to locate their desired items, helping them make selections, wrapping the items, and loading them into their vehicle. While I take pleasure in delivering excellent service, there are occasions when it feels like the effort exerted is disproportionate
About six months ago I told the head of the office that I was interested in moving to another group within our company. She said they weren’t currently hiring in that department due to a hiring freeze but that I would be the “first to know” when there was an opening.
I have been in my current role for too long and probably should have left the company several years ago, but I enjoy my job and kept hoping that something would come up.
The other day I learned through a coworker that the job I wanted was posted a week ago. We are a fairly small office and nobody said a word to me. I know she’s aware that I am interested so I assume this means they don’t want me for the job. Is it wrong of me

I have worked for a few years as a department manager for a smaller, higher end retailer that typically does not have a lot of theft. We don't have any LP on site but there are cameras. Most of the fraud is credit-card related. However, the past few months we suddenly have many floor samples disappearing (small appliances, etc) because we are more like a showroom for these items. I can't figure out how/ when it is happening because we are pretty well staffed and attempt to engage with every customer. Traffic is slow on weekdays, heavy on weekends and our store has cut-through traffic.
It can be difficult to replace some of these items due to inventory issues and I would appreciate any advi
I work in retail in dupage and am seeing the majority of customers are not wearing masks and similar numbers with employees. I expect that number to increase gradually. I am surprised that I still see so many cloth masks. I would think if you were concerned about contracting the virus in crowded places you would wear an n95 or surgical mask at a minimum. Do people feel safe wearing cloth?
My employer recently changed their policy to fully vaccinated employees are not required to wear masks. We weren’t asked to provide proof of vaccination or even attest to it. Of course, many of the unvaccinated people took off their masks immediately. These are people who are vocally anti-vaxx. I don’t know why but this just seems wrong. Why didn’t my employer just say masks are optional? The people I report to are not vaccinated, so I don’t feel I can complain. Is this a typical and should I voice my concerns?
I was diagnosed add (inattentive) when I was fairly young, I was a daydreamer, messy, unable to complete a task that I found boring, always losing things, easily distracted when doing homework or chores, slow when taking tests or homework. Medications have helped moderately but I still struggle as an adult.
I met my husband in college and he was so focused, so fast, he didn’t procrastinate, and I remember thinking he was so fortunate to be “normal” and not have add. Well, 25 years later and his mental health has been a serious issue, he’s a recovering alcoholic, he’s been extremely impulsive, he’s a massive procrastinator, he’s anxious and depressed. He apparently had some extensive testi
I worked as a department lead in a store that is meant to have excellent customer service. Last year I worked with an associate who after 6 months of employment was still confused by POS and couldn’t remember how to do anything but the simplest transaction. Customers were generally patient at first but some become openly frustrated by how long their transaction took. She tried to muddle through without asking for help which made matters worse. Sometimes I would see her struggling to wrap up the items for what seemed like an eternity. She’s very slow. I would often jump in and help to try and smooth over the sale. Eventually ASMs shifted her over to greeting as they were aware that she couldn
I work in retail at a store that prior to covid was a great place to work. We are currently ridiculously understaffed as a result of the pandemic. The rehiring process has been very slow and my employer is having a difficult time filling the positions. Because it is summer, employees are taking preplanned vacations as well as last minute weekend trips. The extra workload is being dumped on the small number of employees who are on the schedule. I am exhausted and resentful. I planned on taking a few days off in later in the summer because i knew the store was short staffed, but now I am wondering if I should purposely take some time now. I’m not winning any awards for making sacrifices, and I
These are some of the things I tried, absolutely none of which worked!
Poured out his whiskey, leaving the bottle upside down in the sink for him to see when he was sober.
Tracked his location when he was out and texted him when “it was time” to come home.
Called him 20 times in a row until he answered, so I could tell him it was time to come home.
Monitored his drinking at parties and signaled when I thought he should slow down.
Printed and emailed helpful articles on appropriate amounts to drink. (Less than 14 drinks per week for men!)
Bought a breathalyzer to prove to him he was drinking too much. (Lol)
Polished off alcohol I didn’t even want so he wouldn’t drink it.
