I'd murder everyone around me for an original Milo bar!

90
brydawgbry•

I talk about how good they were and people look at me like a retard. I swear nobody remembers the original Milo bar. It was incredible!

19
TheCriticalMember•

Plenty of people remember them bro. You're not alone!

7
Cpt_Soban•

We were lucky as hell to get them as kids for school- They were fucking amazing

3
Keeprunning80•

When did they stop making them?

5
aussiefamily•

2003

6
daybeforetheday:vax:•

I'd watch a Milo Yiannopoulous interview for one.

I wonder if you put milo in like a press of some sort (the aeropress maybe) if you could replicate the inner texture of the original bar, then coat it with chocolate 🤔👩‍🔬🧪🍫

3
entotheenth•

If you leave a can of milo in the cupboard for somewhere between 6 months and 2 years it turns into a milo bar.

It might need summer heat, if you leave it too long it’s bad.

3
vegemiteismyjam•

I've never had one, but my husband recalls loving them! He can't remember the texture to explain it. Was the inside powdery like a spoonful of milo? Or chewy? Crunchy??

2
rumpigiam•

from my memory. it was like compressed milo from the tin. with chocolate on the outside.

7
TheCriticalMember•

Powdery but solid. You know those fancy hot chocolate tablet things that you're supposed to dissolve in hot milk? Eat one raw. Not the same, but it's in the same region.

2
PinkMini72•

OMG, YES! Hey, they got “Toobs” back on the market, can we try for the original milo bar?

2
aussiefamily•

“According to a Nestle spokeswoman, it’s not possible to bring the old-style Milo bar back. They no longer have the equipment to produce it”

4
Quite_Successful•

Ah yes, Nestle, the poorly funded startup company that can't afford new equipment. /S

2
PinkMini72•

I say they aren’t trying hard enough.

2
aussiefamily•

Totally agree with this

2
Fortressa-•

Wait, you can get Toobs again? Where?!?

2
aussiefamily•

Woolies sell them apparently

2
TheCriticalMember•

I've seen them at aldi too in recent weeks.

2
PinkMini72•

I picked up some at Aldi

gamboncorner•

Was hoping this would be the top comment.

1
JulieAnneP•

Candy?

56
Slate5OP•

I’m American and lived in Melbourne for a year as a teenager. Are they chocolate bars? I don’t remember. Choccies?

29
JulieAnneP•

Chocolate bars 👍

28
TranceIsLove:wa:•

22

Came here just for this comment...Candy? ffs

1†
Captain_Poopy•

I say candy now because my kids always do. Its due to youtube and not really a big deal

-24
basildevonish•

I’m calling social services to come take your kids away from you.

12
groverjuicy•

Australian language and culture being destroyed by US infestation = not really a big deal.

7
Cykra183•

Hmm so what do we call them, lollies?

1
groverjuicy•

^^^

1
Captain_Poopy•

Well half my family are migrants so I am not really too attached to what you would call traditional Australian culture. It's fairly toxic IMHO

1
cynon-ap•

we're being colonised by *another* bunch of colonisers

-2
popsibaby•

4
xerpodian•

1
ngali2424•

What, no Pollywaffles!!

13
Temporary-Pea-9054•

Loved the Pollywaffles soooo much ❤️

3
Slate5OP•

I don’t remember the Polly Waffle, but when I looked up the image it said it’s supposed to be released again this year. Pushed back because of Covid.

1
justnigel•

This is giving me royal agricultural show bags vibes.

13

Yes!!

3
techflo•

When did it simply become ‘the Easter Show’?

2
iaijutsu08•

In Sydney it's always been the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Not sure about other states.

In the UK they have the Royal Agricultural Show.

2
techflo•

For some reason, I was under the impression the Sydney Royal Easter Show gradually transitioned into that name because it was simple. The show has always been put on by the Agricultural Society and many of the events, such as the wood chopping and rugby league, used to be played at the old Agricultural Sportsground. Anyway, I’m not even sure this is something even worth discussing in this much depth. It’s the bloody Sydney Royal Easter Show!!

2
iaijutsu08•

The name "Easter Show" goes back at least as far as 1891, as that was when the Agricultural Society was renamed 'Royal' Agricultural Society and the Easter Show they held was renamed 'Royal' Easter Show.

It's interesting history :)

2
Plaguerat18•

Always been just the Royal show in Perth as long as I've been around (born in the early 90s).

1
Missey85•

Its missing Bertie Beetle for that! 😊

1
octodrew•

I loved the milo bars but the milo inside was hydrophilic and would suck up all the saliva in you mouth making it an effort to swallow

11
Le_Rat_Mort•

The trick was to chase it with some Wizz Fizz or a sherbert fountain for that next level dry mouth

5
thumpingcoffee:qld:•

Don’t remember the Drifter

10
apsilonblue•

Was going to say the same thing. Wonder if they were regional? I am, and was back then, in Sydney.

7
GeneralSkunk•

What, where’s the Polly Waffle??!

(Not made any more, but there’s a bit of a following of them, and I’m not sure if they were made in 85, but I ate them as a kid so probably).

10
HankSteakfist•

Me too they were awesome.

2
cynon-ap•

they certainly existed in 1985

2
stebradandish•

They remade them recently.

0
thambalo•

I love the old caramello koala.

9

I'm an 80's kid. Don't remember the banana shake.

8
stebradandish•

That’s the only one I don’t remember… but even as an adult I wouldn’t buy it so probably wouldn’t have in the 80s either.

6

There’s original and mint aero there but my heart aches for the orange aero ..

7
rossdog82•

Fuck!!! Born in 1982. Was thinking that I can’t remember a few of these. But the orange Aero!!! I loved the others but the orange Aero, that brings back memories.

3
LLaae•

Aero is my favourite chocolate bar. 🍫

2
borrowingfork•

OG Milo yes. No pollywaffle!?

6
rydalmere•

What? No Nudge? - And Chomps were 10c back then.

6
Temporary-Pea-9054•

Chomps were my tuckshop lunch staple!!

3
groverjuicy•

OP, can you list the weights for posterity? We all know these are shrinking, give us proof!

5
JulieAnneP•

I remember most where 50g, when Mars Bars came along they were 60g!

2
No-Percentage3005•

Please do this

2
BungleBungleBungle•

Anybody else remember the Wobbly from the early 90s? It had little bits of Clinkers inside and a pink squiggle on the top of the bar. The wrapper was purple and "holographic" silver, like the Contact you would wrap your school books in.
