Just had surgery with Dr Buck yesterday.

My knees already feel better. My big motivation was pain and mobility. My knees are crap and will probably need to be replaced, but the lipodema was making it worse.

QUESTION: Dr Buck said not to shower for 3 days so I don’t remove my garment.

I’ve leaked through my garment and have a nice pink spot on them.

Can I rinse them while I have them on?

Can I shower in them and leave them on wet?

I have surgery scheduled with Dr. Buck in the middle of July.

I have Anthem insurance through marketplace. I am super excited that it will be covered. A lot of other doctors won’t accept marketplace insurance.

I like Dr. Buck a lot.

But I am also a little nervous about the surgery and recovery.

I don’t wanna screw up on the aftercare.

Can you please tell me the things that you wish you were more conscientious of in recovery?

Thanks

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a bit about my journey with lipedema and how it ties into neurodivergency. I recently saw my GP, and she’s been great—she knows what lipedema is and has been super supportive. She referred me to lymphatic massage and also connected me with a plastic surgeon who specializes in lipedema. It’s honestly such a relief to have providers who understand this condition!

But here’s where things get interesting (and a little overwhelming): I asked my GP about bloodwork and potential connections between lipedema, neurodivergency (ADHD in my case), and my overall health. I didn’t want to bombard her with too many requests because I was worried about coming across as a hyp

Has any seen Dr Donald Buck in STL?

Finding a Doctor / Getting a Diagnosis

Curious if anyone has seen him for lipedema and what your experience has been like?

I had an appointment with another doctor this Wednesday . But my husband lost his job and we went on insurance from the marketplace exchange. Supposedly it’s a $1200 plan. Supposedly the appointment I had with the other doctor was covered when we signed up. Nope, he doesn’t take exchange plans.

I’m so deflated, took me almost 5 months to get the appointments and then this.

So we start again.

Gas lighting myself

General Question/Discussion

TLDR: So how do you stop yourself from gaslighting yourself, especially when you start getting your shit together?

So I'm not officially diagnosed because my Nurse Practitioner can't officially diagnose, though she herself has it, so I feel she knows what she's talking about. I'm waiting for an appointment with the doctor. A client of mine, who works with ADHD patients, also can't officially diagnose me, says that I have it and is helping me create systems.

When we figured this out, it was so relieving because it explained so much. Since I am high functioning, I view it more of a "this is how my brain works and if I work with it and not against it my life will be easier" tha

Estrogen, dopamine and fat

ADHD & Hormone-Related Issues

So, quick hypothesis from reading blurbs about ADHD and hormones… let me know if I’m going in the right direction.

Estrogen regulates dopamine During perimenopause your estrogen production goes down, your ability to control your dopamine and your ADHD goes down.

Estrogen is produced by fat. Food can feed your dopamine. Estrogen also help dopamine, body likes that and wants to keep a level of fat. ADHD can make me fat.

Need to find clean healthy ways to up the dopamine that supports general health.

Exercise is great. Other suggestions?

Can we talk transitions?

Tips & Techniques

I am late diagnosed ADHD. I didn’t know that having a problem with transitions was an ADHD symptom.

I have always had problems with transitions like getting out of the car when I get home, going from one project to another, and even how to transition out of the end of a conversation.

I also find that I have a hard time transitioning in my writing. I am an artist, but I would like to write more to compliment my work, but I find writing is difficult . I think a lot of that has to do with transitions. My paragraphs are either really blunt or overly complicated. Kind of like all the actions in my life.

Does anyone know any good resources talking about transitions?

Why do we do this?

45F figuring out I have ADHD.
I’m creative and fairly high functioning.

Going through my school papers I scored in the 93%+ on everything but spelling and grammar.

Language arts and comprehension sometimes dipped into the 80s.

But the spelling and grammar was like 46% or below in grade school.

Still made it into Honors English classes in high school, but always had this feeling I was stupid and bad at writing because I couldn’t spell.

Learning to tell my younger self that I’m not stupid, just bad at spelling. And that’s ok because I’m good at a lot of other things.

Is spelling a common issue for ADHDers? Did you get shamed into thinking you were stupid for not being able to

Recently figured out that the issues I've been dealing with my entire life have been influenced by my undiagnosed ADHD. I'm now 45. Smart enough to cope with it, but life would have been so much easier if I knew what I was coping with.

I'm pretty sure my husband is also ADHD. He's also pretty smart, but he's always been missing something to be "successful" in this world. After a hyper-fixation learning about ADHD, I'm starting to adopt a better attitude that I'm not broken, just different and that success is on my terms. Also trying to be as understanding with my husband.

His doom piles, procrastination, and decision paralysis can make me crazy. They're the same things I h

Birds of a feather flock together, right?
So it makes sense that a lot of my friends are probably ND.

And now that I'm 98% sure I'm ADHD, I find myself looking at all my friends and family going, yup ADHD, ADHD, that one's probably autistic, ADHD... :D

Does anyone else do that?

About 10 years ago I had 2 clients mention my ADHD in a positive way. I laughed and brushed it off and would refer to it in the societal ADHD excuse of forgetting something or being interested in too many things. But I didn’t take it seriously. I work in a creative field. So most of us are all a little “different”

I am what they would call 40 years ago the “gifted” child. Smart, obedient, hard worker. Always did well in school. Also the oldest daughter/child.

Fast forward to March. Go to PCP for annual check, have to see NP. I’ve gained a ton of weight due to grief from the death of family members. She recommended phentermine. I’m like sure, whatevs, it’s short term.

I have knocked knees and osteoarthritis. I badly injured my knees but have been working with PT to rehab them.

My IT bands kill me at night. I stretch, use a pillow between my knees, occasionally use EMS/tens, the Chinese suction cups and/or the “blade” on the muscles.

It helps, but they hurt most nights. You can feels the gravel of “nodules” under the skin.

I thought this was just muscle/ knee issues but think it might be lipedema pain?

One other hing - it’s hard for me to get out of a low chair / toilet - is this also a lipedema symptom? i can walk 5 miles, but I can't get my butt up off a chair easily.
