For the times I want to bikepack solo, one of the biggest logistical hurdles for me is finding a place to park my car after driving to the start of the route. I know it’s situational and location dependent, but how do y’all find a safe place to park for 3-5 days when designing routes if you aren’t getting dropped off by a friend?

I currently ride a 32lb aluminum Orbea Occam that has been great, but after getting a Xc hardtail I’m left wanting the Occam to feel lighter. I’ve always been a more of an XC rider who’s not interested in super techy trails and jumps, and likes pedaling. I’ve toyed with the idea of switching to a shorter travel downcountry bike, but it’d have too much overlap with my hardtail and I want some reserve suspension travel to compensate for my average mtb skills.

Carbon Specialized Stumpjumper (not evo) frames are available for a steep discount right now, and I could swap all the parts from the Occam over to it with no compatibility issues. The weight weenie in me likes that the Stumpy frame is l

Amazon Prime had both watches 43% off on Prime Days ($200 for the Instinct Solar and $350 for the 945) and I need something to replace my dying Vivoactive 3, so I bought both with the intention of returning one since I couldn't decide at the moment.

As someone who isn't very familiar with Garmin's extensive lineup, which would be better for me? I am a cyclist who doesn't do structured training but still rides a bunch and likes to nerd out over data. Most of my cycling skews towards off road stuff and bikepacking.

I originally wanted the Instinct Solar after rave reviews from my friends. But I bought the Forerunner when I found that even the solar was missing features my Vivoactive 3 had li

Is there a good rooftop tent model out there that is a hard shell (pop up), but allows access to the tent area from the bottom? Like you could hoist yourself up into the space from the car's interior (through the sunroof), similar to how you would do so with a camper van with a pop-up roof? I have a Subaru Forester with a big panoramic sunroof, so I think a setup like this would be a perfect way to take advantage of it.

I have an irrational fear of situations where I need to be able to crawl into the driver's seat and drive away in the middle of the night without exiting the vehicle, and this would help in that regard immensely without having to buy a full on van.

Samsung is offering an absolutely killer deal right now, with $150 off and a whopping $500 trade in credit for a working S20 FE conspiring to slash the price down to $120 for a 256gb model for me! I am very tempted to take this offer, as the Android 12 update ruined my daily driver Oneplus 8T and I'm getting a bit annoyed with touchscreen issues on my secondary S20 FE.

So how has the S21 FE experience been for y'all? Strengths/weaknesses of the phone? Is it worth it for $120 coming from my aforementioned Oneplus 8T and S20 FE?

So I got an offer, but I am debating whether I am going to accept it or not due to the above question. For reference, both jobs would have me making just under $100k. Here are the factors in play that tips the scales in the favor of the new job with the paycut:

  • I'd be moving from SoCal (LA area) to Denver, so cost of living would be less, if not by much.
  • This company makes a product I actually use everyday for my favorite outdoor hobby, so I will definitely vibe with the people who work there.
  • The benefits are insane at the new company. Highlights are free healthcare with no employee monthly contribution and $0 copay so it's basically free, a 8% bonus, 3 weeks of vacation off the bat

Just venting here. I'm getting to the final round of interviews, feeling like I aced them, but not getting offers. And its all due to complete BS reasons like these:

  1. BS overqualification issues. I'm currently an engineer working on a complex medical device at my job. I've been put out of consideration for positions that work on simpler mechanisms, simply because the companies thought that I'd get bored with their devices because of what I worked on before. This is complete stupidity, the didn't consider that maybe I wanted a bigger role on a smaller device instead of being assigned to one or two lousy components on the medical device...
  2. Trying to go home. I'm located in California, an

So one day my battery light mysteriously comes on when I start my Forester. Being cautious, I checked the internet for what it meant and found out it meant the battery charging system wasn't charging my battery. After opening the hood, I found the cause was that the serpentine belt had come off of the bottom-most crankshaft pulley so that there was no tension, and it couldn't drive the alternator and the water pump.

Doing some research, the only potential causes I could find were that the idler pulley bearings had worn down and caused the belt to skip, or the tensioner pulley was malfunctioning. Both were strangely in perfect condition. And the belt itself wasn't the culprit either, as my c
