I'm reading some books as part of my research and prep for the trail this year. How about you?

I thought I'd start a thread and anyone who wants to can share a title or two that you're excited about reading or have read before. About the PCT, thru-hiking, backpacking, history, landscape, anything related to the Pacific Crest Trail. At the risk of sounding like an elitist, I'll just go ahead and make this a No "Wild" Allowed thread. We all know that one :)

And just to avoid super long encyclopedic lists of everything in your library, let's also establish a three-book limit (with one honorable mention if you need/want it) so really pick some gems you're super stoked on.

Hello Bakersfield,

Where around here would be the best place if I wanted to go for a hike and see real life condors flying around or perching? I would like to take photos of real life condors. They are birds.

Did anyone else hear 6-8 gunshots in rapid succession this afternoon in the downtown area near the Marriot / Library area?

Thanks

Hi I just moved here and I want to find a good gym. Not Planet Fitness.

I want to find a gym with good free weights, barbells, etc. Not a crossfit gym though.

Any tips? My budget is $25-50 month.

I really like my EE Revelation quilt. I don't want to make a whole new quilt, though I might someday. What I HATE about this quilt is the fact they put the toggle for the drawcord right in the middle of the top of the quilt, so the thing smacks you in the face at night and the cord feels like a frickin snake or bug is on your face when it gets out of place. WHY did they do this????? WHY IS IT IN THE MIDDLE?

I want to modify my quilt by moving the toggle off to one of the sides, or putting two toggles off to either side... but I'm new to this MYOG world so I'm not sure how to proceed. Has anyone else solved this problem or have any ideas? I've looked through archives but haven't seen

Hi all! Love this sub but this is my first time posting a question. I got a polycro groundsheet from Gossamer Gear. It's just about the perfect size (with a trim on one end) to be a good groundsheet for inside an X-Mid 1P (since Durston is out of his sheets and who knows when they will be restocked).

Here's what I'm wondering. Has anyone come up with an ingenious corner tie-off solution for this material? I'm thinking of folding the corner back on itself once, sandwiching a nylon or rubber washer inside this corner fold, then gluing it all down flat with epoxy or silicone or something. Once it's dried/cured, punching out the polycro material in the hole in the center of the washer: s

I joined this sub expecting to see bad art but mostly what I see posted here is art by children and/or people just starting out.

That's not bad art, it's just unskilled art. I guess I had a different idea of bad art.

Like I thought there'd be Thomas Kinkade paintings and whatnot. Oh well.

This thread is for the folks to were fortunate in their permit application today. Congratulations! If you were lucky to get the date you wanted, even bigger Congratulations!

For anyone who didn't get a date they wanted, perhaps they could post that here too and find someone to switch with? (Of course everyone needs to wait until their permit has been approved and then coordinate it between themselves, correct?)

I'm new to this process and reddit but it's already been very helpful as a lurker.

For example, I got May 17th though I was really hoping for May1-5. Later than ideal. I think it's okay though, as I was born and raised in the desert and am already adapted to hot weather hiking
