Well, after 8 years of monitoring weather and never seeing anything below -1C (30F), the forecast is now showing 2 days with lows at -4C (25F). I have a 3-year old Reed that was planted 4 months ago that is at risk. Should I dig it up and bring it inside, build an enclosure from cardboard, just use frost cloth, or some other trick that people have used?

The Reed was given SOP (potassium sulfate) for winter hardiness and has so far weathered several -1C events over the past few weeks without any issues, but those temperatures were only for 2 to 3 hours and this will be three days at or below freezing.

Does anyone have a Yuwell Pocket S Travel CPAP yet? I have one on order and need to make a 24V DC travel adapter for it. I would appreciate photos of the plug (almost looks like USB) and back of the power supply (wall wort).

After years of no issues, Rural Delivery has turned into an unreliable mess and I am now on my 3rd missing package and it is taking 5+ business days from rural hand-off to delivery despite being on good terms with the driver and providing snacks. The driver says they are just slammed with too many packages, so it does not seem like it will get better anytime soon.

Is there a service somewhere in south Christchurch/Lyttelton/Ferrymead that will accept packages from all couriers for a reasonable fee? NZ Post collection points and PO Boxes only work for NZ Post deliveries (not NZ Couriers, FedEx, PBT, etc). Pack & Send does not offer receiving packages in Christchurch.

I am installing a heatpump on a pool and the heatpump has a union on it that is designed for metric 50mm pipe with an OD of 50.0mm and the union female socket measures 50.6mm. AS/NZS 1477 40mm pressure pipe has an outside diameter of 48.3mm. The difference in diameters leaves a gap of 1.15mm between the two pipes which is too big of a gap to fill with standard PVC pipe glues.

I have not been able to track down bushings for this in New Zealand - does anybody know what I should be asking for? I would expect them to exist at pool shops, but I am probably asking for the wrong thing.

I did find some bushings and adapters in the UK, but would prefer not having to deal with ordering these over

Historically, many of the projects I have worked on have used a central datastore with a publisher-subscriber interface for change notification, but that can easily devolved into the "God Object" anit-pattern as the project evolves. Embedded projects over the past few years have become more complex with shuttling data between multiple interfaces and it looks like adopting a message bus may be the best way forward.

What are people using these days? Zephyr has ZBus which works well for Zephyr code. I have used it for a few projects and it works well, although when memory is tight, the extra copies of data start to add up.

What about Linux application inter-thread communication? I have ha

Since Evernote sketch has been broken in Android for several years now and Evernote appears to have no intention of fixing it, what do other people use for doing quick drawings or handwriting in Evernote?

If Evernote support decides to actually do something, here are the support ticket numbers that you have been ignoring:

Has anyone seen stainless jamb screws or equivalent? Blacks only carries them in zinc in their tasty jam [sic] screw assortment (https://www.blacksfasteners.co.nz/products/screws/other/door-jam-screws).

They way they work is they have rings (instead of threads) on the top portion that grabs onto the door jamb and you can then adjust the distance from the wall my screwing/unscrewing the screw and without using packers.

I am retrofitting a clutch onto a wood chipper with a 1" (25.4mm) shaft. I need a 25.4mm ID x 14.5mm L spacer since the clutch is shorter than the originally drive pulley. The spacer goes between the retaining bolt on the end of the shaft and the bearing race of the clutch. Spacer should be steel to avoid deforming once the retaining bolt is tightened. Maximum diameter is around 32mm to avoid hitting the clutch bearing retaining c-clip.

This is the exact part that I need, but they don't ship to NZ: https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/1inch-Crankshaft-Clutch-Spacer-suit-GX390/

Does anyone know where I can get an empty 20L drum with a lockring lid in Christchurch?

I am using is for a cyclonic prefilter for my wet/dry vacuum. Plastic buckets tend to flex and crack over time even with internal plywood support and the lids are difficult to remove.

I found a few paint shops in Auckland that sell them, but I need it early next week which probably isn't going to happen for a reasonable cost.

I have a control system controlling the maximum combined load current from multiple parallel power sources. The actual load current is variable, but will never exceed the maximum configured value.

Conceptually, each power source can be thought of as a battery that can provide a variable amount of power at up to 10A of current. A higher current draw will increase the voltage drop and the voltage should stay above the minimum of 10V. Each power source is slightly different and the voltage drop based upon load will change over time. The load current can be up to 30A.

I currently have a control system that takes the minimum current of two parallel PID loops:

I am working on a project where I need to measure slow-moving DC signals from 0V to 70V with 1 mV precision and about 50 mV overall accuracy from 0C to 85C. These are scaled down 3.3V for reading by a delta-sigma ADC or oversampled SAR ADC. I can do temperature compensation in software.

A resistor divider using 0.01% resistors would work, but is expensive since I will have 16 of these circuits in a cost-sensitive system and this would be on the order of US$25 just in resistors. The range of the resistor values required excludes using 0.1% resistor arrays to build up the divider.

A divider using 0.1% 25 ppm resistors will work only with EOL calibration which I am trying to avoid if possi

Has anyone successfully used the TRAX tracing module for instruction tracing? I'm trying to get it working Zephyr RTOS and OpenOCD and it is an uphill battle at the moment as the TRM has limited information.

Cadence apparently has an "Xtensa LX7 Debug Guide" document that has further details that would probably be useful, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet.

I will be traveling to Australia from New Zealand for a short 5-day trip to NSW and need to have a few things shipped within Australia to be collected the first day, but I will be traveling outside of normal business hours. The Australia Post offers a parcel locker, but they require an Australian address and mobile number. I guesss I could get an eSIM with an Australian number while still in NZ. Any other options that people can think of?

Posted this to the New Zealand sub since it is a New Zealand issue that Aussies wouldn't have.

I just did an install of v3.0.73.7-rc2 on Linux Mint 21.2 and Windows 11 and could not get them to talk to each other even with disabling TLS. Debug logs didn't show any activity between the two computers. Disabled firewall on Linux Mint and connected to a private network with Synergy enable on private networks on Windows.

If others have this working, I'll open a debug case.

Any plumbers willing to comment? I have ERV fresh air intakes that unfortunately are in the same areas as the vent stacks (green boxes). G13 requires 5m between the vent stack and any air intakes and there is no way to run both the ERV air intakes and vent pipes 5m apart in those areas.

The plumber is busy and can't show up for a few weeks, but the ERV intakes need to be installed this week.

Is it possible to put air admittance valves in the green boxes instead of vent pipes? There will be one main vent stack shown in the red rectangle (which is existing) and consists of a DN100 pipe leading up to a removable reducer and a DN50 pipe up to the roof. G13 seems to imply it should be DN80,
