For today's eclipse, where are you guys planning on watching it? Do you think the lakeside is fine? I'm worried that the Jura will obstruct the view, especially because the eclipse is occuring near sunset...

Hey all, I'm a last year masters in Astrophysics student working on high z galaxies somewhere in europe.

The time has come to start applying to phd positions (also within eu), and I am genuinely shocked at the current situation... I've applied to several places and they've all told me that for about 9-25 phd positions, they are recieving anywhere from 500-700 applications???

Is the future of an astrophysicist currently cooked? How are we to get phd positions if there is so much competition for so few places???

The competition feels like we're all competing for a ceo position, but no its a less than minimum wage research position 💀💀

Recently I was thinking about the wave like nature of small particles, and I wondered if:

The wave-like nature is just a consequence of these subatomic particles interacting with a very small, but present gravitational wave background source originating from the entire universe?

Maybe these particles are just particles, but the wave like behaviour of GW makes them appear to us as wavelike?

Intuitively I feel like this is wrong since we have an entire field of physics dedicated to this and GWs at such large scales would probably have such low amplitudes that not even sub atomic particles would be affected as much as we see observe them to be?

Is therr perhaps a source or something where t

Hi, im about to finish the 3 years on my temp drivers licence expiring this sunday.

Does anyone know if I am allowed to go to the office cantonal des vehicules on friday when its open to prematurely get my permanent license? Surely 2 days early cant pose a problem?

If not, then would I be allowed to drive next week with my "expired" probation license to get it renewed?

Thanks in advance

Hey everyone, as the title suggests, I will be starting my military recruit school for the army in the coming months.

Are there any useful tips that I (or any future person that stumbles onto this post) can consider for this?

I thank you all in advance

I have the option to change the battery on my s9 or get the s21 fe.

To those that have gotten a professional battery change, was it a considerable improvement? (Rn I have 1h30 of SOT on a good day) I fear that I might invest in a new battery only for it to fail me a few months down the line.

So instead should I get a new s21 fe instead?
