Angpao etiquette

HAPPY CNY 2025🐉🍊

So after a very awkward first day, I need to get the community consensus. Google search doesn't seem to give a consensus due to the lack of information which I think stems from the persistent cultural taboo.

So the question is if divorcees still give out angpao/red packets or receive them?

Personally, I'd like to still give it out to close relatives, and I don't want to receive it - however meeting new people, the first question is "are you married?" And I have to awkwardly explain "No... But..."

My work involves a lot of panning (i.e. clicking and dragging) like one does for Google maps. Unfortunately, clicking and dragging all day gets exhausting. I was wondering if anyone knows an option whether it's hardware or software to make it easier.

The best option I can think of is the Logitech MX Ergo with the trackball, where I could just flick the ball left and move left on the screen, but that would also require having the centre the cursor everytime, and I'm not sure if the logitech program allows that customisation. Ideas? TIA.

Has anyone had a good refinancing cashback? I've just come off fixed rates and sick of being with ANZ. Best cashback I've come across is ME bank with $3000 - I don't really mind the higher interest rates as I've got money to offset it. Remember seeing $4k not that long ago but I can't seem to find any now!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows any good sites for training in cytology? Hologic (digitalcytologyeducation.com) is a good one that I know of for learning gynaecological cytology. If anyone knows any for other organ systems, I would love to hear about it! Thanks!

I've been seeing a girl for about 2 months and we've established that we would like to take things seriously. She's recently opened up to me about her previous sexual history including having unprotected one night stands and with multiple guys within the last 6 months before me (and not being on hormonal contraception) which is surprising given she's a health professional. I didn't make it a deal at the time, but after heading home I've been ruminating. There are other aspects that leads me to think that she has some impulsive behaviours.

I did mention my surprise at the time which she has said 'it was just on the spur of the moment'. Ideally, I would feel much more comforted if she had the

I have purchased a new build townhouse earlier this year, and at the time, the building inspector has noted some efflorescence around the tile on the balcony and that the fall is inadequate - although water still does drain, there is a bit of pooling in some spots. I've been putting it off a bit given I've spend time settling in and with work/covid and so far, it has gotten slightly worse. I was wondering if this is something that I am able to get the developer/builder to fix given that this is a failure to adhere to building standards. Is it also something that needs to be fixed ASAP or it may not be that big of a deal? Photo

I've been asked to give another presentation to FYs in my area of histopathology - good sign I suppose!

These are 30-45 minute didactic teaching sessions with question time. I last presented on what we do in the lab, the process of tissue to slide and our role in cancer multidisciplinary meetings.

I'm hoping to gather some ideas of what other medics would be interested in knowing. My concern is that it can easily get too complex e.g. I'm thinking of teaching principles of molecular pathology tests - e.g. lung cancers (EGFR,ALK,ROS1), colorectal (MMR) as it's relevant medically and surgically but it's all acronyms and gets hard to remember. If anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears! :

Medical statistics - it feels silly asking this but it's surprisingly hard to find an answer from Googling.

I'm looking at a retroscpective case series and calculating odds ratio. If I have 20 patients (10 in exposed group and 10 in control) , with the measure of the event/outcome at the end of 5 years. One of them was lost to follow up (from the non-exposed group). There are two events in each group. Do I count it in?

Event (Yes)Event (No)
Exposure Yes28
Exposure No27 (or is it 8?)

TIA!

I have settlement day on 31/12, with a condition of a significant penalty if settlement occurs on 1/1/21. The reason for this is because the vendor wants to settle before the new year to avoid another year of land tax (this gets passed on to me if it becomes delayed.

So my concern is how often does settlement get delayed on the day itself? Settlement will occur via PEXA, and from what I have gathered, it looks like it is pretty much over half an hour before settlement is finalised. At this point, everything is already pretty much lined up and ready to go. However, I am still strongly considering moving settlement day to 29/12/20 just in case.

I'm interested in hearing the thoughts of this community in regards to having children when considering the future with climate change

Points of thought

  • Climate change is something beyond my control - but - bringing a child into the world is also contributing to the crisis.
  • Children having the experience the injustice and mistakes of my generation and of previous generations
  • And with both these points in mind, is it virtuous to choose/or not to have a child with an outcome and future that is uncertain

I'm a financially independent 26 y.o. looking to transfer the car insurance from my mum's name to mine. Called a few companies and quotes are ranging from $1400-1800 which I think is too much. Mum's currently paying around $750.

To add me as a listed driver bumps her insurance up to $1200 which would be the cheapest option.

I could stay as an unlisted driver and keep the same price. I couldn't find anything that states that I must be a listed driver. Wording is should (does that means I will still be covered while it's under her name?)

Are there any cheaper options out there. Apparently it's my age makes me much riskier.

Further details: Comprehensive cover, $9000 for the amount cov
