The first run of the day brings Kenny Yeboah in motion across the formation to kick out the left edge defender. The play is designed to hit right between that kickout block and Mekhi Becton, with Nick Bawden leading up to take the first second-level defender inside. Yeboah's angle is way too far upfield and it's very easy for the defender move right around it and step into the hole, forcing Breece Hall to cut to the outside, where there's an unblocked corner waiting for him.

Early in the game, the offense was rolling. Here, the Jets run Duo to the right out of a bunch formation. They get two double teams from left guard to right tackle and a good kickout block from Mekhi Becton. There isn't a whole lot of vertical movement from the double teams, which is what you want when running Duo, but because they get everyone covered up, there's a huge hole in the backside B gap that Breece is able to hit. He's fast enough to get past two defenders easily and picks up a huge gain.

The second play of the day after the Jets gain 5 on a first down run. They come out in 13 personnel and try to run a counter back to the left side. It's set up pretty well on the left side - Mekhi Becton and Laken Tomlinson get a decent double team on the 3-tech and Becton gets up to the weakside ILB. Jeremy Ruckert bluffs the left edge player and gets up to the playside safety. The problem is the puller coming from the right side. Jake Hanson has the important job of kicking out the edge, opening a hole for Nick Bawden to wrap up to the playside ILB and Breece Hall to follow. But he doesn't come across under control and allows the

The first throw of the game is a third and long, but it ends up being an easy one. The Texans are in 2 man and Zach's first read is Garrett Wilson on a 10 yard out. Really, this play is all Garrett. He stems inside, and at the top of his route the defender is in perfect position to defend an out route, but he hits the brakes and fights through the contact to separate and pick up the first down. Zach does nothing special here - he stares down Garrett the whole time and doesn't really anticipate this throw, but it's an accurate ball for a first down regardless.

On the first play of the game, I LOVE this playcall. Considering the Jets' tendencies and how aggressive the Falcons defense is, this is the perfect opportunity to try to hit a deep shot off of play action. Garrett Wilson on the deep over is the primary read, but he's basically bracketed by the two safeties and isn't open. However, with that deep safety driving on the over, Jason Brownlee, who's basically running a clearout route, has a 1-on-1 deep with a corner who's a step behind him and sprinting to catch up. This ball has to go to Brownlee here. The pass protection is great, Boyle has room to take two hitches and let it go, and

This run goes for a decent gain, but it does not hit how it's designed. Randall Cobb motions in to crack Jaelan Phillips, and Breece Hall gets the toss to (ideally) get around the corner behind Nick Bawden. The motion is pretty slow, and not only does Phillips see it, but he bench presses Cobb so far sideways that he takes himself out of the play. Now while Cobb could probably bring a little more on the block, this is putting him in a position to fail. Allen Lazard has not been playing well, but one thing you know he's good for is run blocking. Having him inactive just to put Randall Cobb out here is just a confusing decision. Even

Fresh off a defensive penalty, the Jets call a rare play action pass on first down. Garrett Wilson and Jeremy Ruckert run verticals with a switch release, and Ruckert gets behind the flat defender for an easy first down. However, Zach Wilson appears to never even look at him and checks it down to Breece Hall, who drops it. No doubt that Breece needs to catch this ball, but I have no idea why Zach doesn't throw it to Ruckert. It's a simple 1-2 read and the flat defender gains no depth. This would be one of the easiest first downs we could ask for.

2nd and 6 from the NYJ 26

On a 2nd and medium, I'm fine with this playcall. The Jets run a trap to the right side with Laken Tomlinson coming across to kick out the defensive end. Tippmann and Becton block back, Newman and Mitchell are working a double team to the Will LB, and Uzomah has the Mike LB. This play gets blown up because Newman and Mitchell do absolutely nothing to the 3 technique on the right side. Newman puts his hand on the guy a little bit and Mitchell gets stood up immediately. Because Mitchell is still in the backfield, Tomlinson is forced to take a wider angle, allowing the edge player to knife inside of him and close

I wanted to highlight some scheme deficiencies aside from the penalties, drops, and fumbles that you don't need an All-22 breakdown to see.

Archaic route concepts

2nd and 6 from the NYJ 39

Ignoring the roughing the passer penalty (FINALLY!!!), this is just straight up terrible football. The Jets are in a 2x2 formation and run hitches across the board. The second level of the Chargers defense are all sitting on top of the receivers at the snap and never get more than 8 yards down the field. Zach has no choice but to check it down to Dalvin Cook, who gets tackled immediately. There are far better concepts in the quick gam
