Afternoon, commanders.

We all know Thargoids tend to inhabit Witchspace, although their probes and wreckage are becoming worryingly common in our plane of existence. If, when this menace mounts its first assault, it takes place in that space-between-space that forms the foundation of our very existence as an interstellar species, we're going to have a problem.

The safety of the hyperspace network is paramount to our economic and political futures, and is what secures our reach into the heavens. If the Thargoids threaten that, if they can undermine the security of our transportation systems, galactic society could perish overnight. We need a solution.

What technology exists that we can

I've been testing the film simulation on the X100T over the past few days, and I've noticed that Classic Chrome, which seems to be universally loved by everyone with this camera, looks almost nothing like Kodachrome. It's missing all the warmth and vibrancy the film has, and it has none of the character. It looks like a slightly tone-shifted standard (which is apparently Provia?), even on my monitor. Even the contrast is wrong.

Any ideas on how to get that working more accurately?

I've done my homework. I've watched dozens of YouTube reviews, read every review on DPReview and Petapixel, and have fallen in love with this camera. Is there anything most people miss? Are there any accessories I need to buy? Any quality of life improvements I can make?

I'm coming from a D3300 and a handful of photo classes, so I know my way around a camera. I'm excited to get this thing in my hands and get to shooting.

You'll have to forgive my amateur lighting setup. I only had a couple lamps and an iPhone.

Not sure if this is really an appropriate place to post this, but I didn't see anything in the sidebar, so it should be okay.

I've got a Nikon D3300 with the original 18-55 kit lens, a 35mm 1.8 prime, a Lowepro carrying bag and all the original accessories and packing. The camera and lenses are in nearly perfect shape (some scratches around the strap attachments on the body, from where I used a strap with metal clips), and the body's got less than 5000 shutter actuations.

I basically just used it for Professor Heller's photo classes, and a little bit of Beacon work. Looking to upgrade now, though, to get something a little more fun and portable.

If you're interested, let me know. I fi

I'm looking at a few cameras right now, the X100S and the Sony a6000 being the top two in the list. I'm pretty aware of the pros and cons of both, but I want to know what we can expect from the expo next month, and what that means for the current cameras.

I've got a budget of $900 or so, so the T's out of the price range. The Sony and a lens slots nicely in there too, but I'm struggling to decide whether I want 24 megapixels and hundreds of lenses or 16 and a lens that's bolted on. Am I going to see a huge increase in quality in those 8 megapixels, or would a cheap lens hold that back more than a sensor would?

Long post ahead. There's a TL;DR at the bottom.

This has been a problem since I started college, really, but I think I'm just now realizing how serious it is. I have no idea how to start or maintain friendships, ask people out, go on dates, or really even carry on a conversation without a defined topic.

I'm not totally broken, I've kept up with a few friends from high school and I do fine with family and people I already know, but it seems like starting or maintaining new connections is a problem.

I've got some idea how this happened. I had a particularly terrible teacher back in grade school, around grade 4 or so. I bugged the hell out of her by finishing work early, asking questio

I'm a bit of a hobbyist photographer, and I'm thinking about swapping out my D3300 for an a6000 for portability reasons. I tend to pack pretty light, and right now it's just a pain to lug the DSLR around. I don't shoot as often as I'd like to. I think the Sony's size might help with that, but I want to give it a decent try before I end up buying one.

Also, if anyone's in the market for a D3300 with an 18-55 and a 35 prime, I might have one to sell you in a month or two.

I was checking my credit card balance yesterday ($3700, about to pay it off in full next month), and I noticed a handful of charges from stores I don't shop at: Victoria's Secret, some cell phone store, etc. I called my issuer (a US-based Visa distributor) as soon as I saw them to report it and get a new card and number sent out.

They've started an investigation, and placed those purchases under a reverse hold. From what I was told, the purchases were made in-person, with a cloned card. They've since cancelled that number and issued a new card that will arrive in a few days. Everything on that end seems to be going okay.

What other precautions or protections do I need to know about? What

I'm currently a third-year major in Journalism & Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee. I've worked on the student paper, written for a national online food journalism network, and I'm currently interning at a local arts and entertainment magazine.

I got into this field because, in high school, I was obsessed with design journalism. Dwell, Dezeen, FastCo.Design, I read them all. I've done my fair share of similar work, both with the student newspaper and my own personal blog, covering the work of local and international architects, as well as historical preservation and product design. I've even taken a handful of design classes to learn more about the fundamentals.

My tracking has a stutter. Not all the time, but it seems like during periods of high activity in-game (asset loading, item spawning in Lucky's Tale, etc), my tracking will skip a few mm and teleport to where it expects my head to be.

I have the camera set up on my desk about two or three feet away, and I'm not leaving tracking bounds (that's a very different feeling), this is just an intermittent tick that happens every few minutes.

It's not the biggest issue in the world, but I'd like to fix it if possible. I've made sure my camera and headset are plugged into different USB 3.0 busses, I've disabled a lot of my startup apps, and I'm monitoring hardware temps to make sure it's not a ther

Disclaimer: I've got a little bit of experience working with Unity, Blender, 3DS Max, that sort of thing, but I've never done any real programming.

I figure the best way to go about this would be to figure out how to parent the player to a moving object, which follows a pre-determined path with variable velocity. The "ride vehicle," as it is, could travel through a series of decorated rooms, and I could use a lot of the same tricks they do in theme parks to keep assets to a minimum.

I plan on making most of my assets myself. What do I need to keep in mind, as far as polygon targets and texture sizes go? What art styles work in VR? Should I stick to hand-drawn or cel-shaded textures?
