Trying to get a camera setup for Black Friday. I’m a total photography noob (smartphone user) but I would like to step up my game a bit. I’ll mostly bring the camera for travels and hikes, taking photos of wildlife, architecture and landscape. Most of these would be in medium light situations (dusk or dawn) so low-ish light performance is going to be important. I’ll probably also take some amount of video, though that’s secondary.

I was mainly looking at the Sony A6x00 series since they seem to be the lightest/smallest compared to other brands. Considering I’m a beginner I think the object tracking AF is going to be really nice as well, especially if I’m trying to capture moving wildlife. I

I'm helping my friend set up her new S8 (you know how it goes, I'm a software developer so I'm automatic tech support for everyone I know). I'm an iOS user however, so I don't really know how everything works.

We were moving all her stuff from her old iPhone to her S8, which I just used Google Drive for. Now on her new S8 I set up Google Photos so that she can access her old photos and all her new photos from the camera are backed up and are also accessible from her iPad.

This works so far, however, today she came to me with a problem: there's no way to access the photos from Google Photos in 3rd party apps. For example, if you try to share a picture in Facebook Messenger, it only shows th

Like... seriously? I work as a software engineer, and I've recently accepted an offer with one of the most prestigious companies in my industry. They're trying to get me a work permit for Canada first and then transfer me to the US under an L1, because supposedly that's the easiest way. I don't really care because at least that'll put me in the same timezone as my SO, and flights to come see her would be 2 hours and $200 instead of 15 hours and $800+. It'll also mean that we get to close the distance after a year or so after ~2 years of LDR total at that point, which I'm super stoked about.

There's just so much red tape involved, so many things to fill out... Recently it turns out I might n

I was working on some unit tests today. I'm using vim-test which is pretty nice since you just set up a binding and then run it and it runs the tests for you.

However, when you're iterating it would be really nice to have a plugin show the current unit test status either in the gutter or the status line (and re-run tests on save or something). I saw that apparently that used to be possible by combining neoterm and vim-test, but it seems that feature has since been removed. Anyone have any idea if there is a plugin that allows you to do this?

See title, I'm trying to talk to a 5V SPI device. It does work somewhat, but is very unstable. For something bi-directional I know I would need a level shifter, but since I'm only sending data from the Pi -> SPI device and I have a 5V source on my breadboard anyway, can't I just use a transistor instead? I think in theory it should work, right?

Hi,

I have a simple "send message" action to message a specific contact. I've tried everything, but instead of the message going to the actual contact (phone number +1808....) it always goes to a number with a different prefix (+43808 or just 808). I've tried selecting the contact from the phone book, typing in the number with the correct prefix, and more but nothing seems to work. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known issue?

See title... most other apps that access Health data tell you not to lock your phone since the data is encrypted while it is locked.

However, it seems that workflows I access from the widget on the lock screen work fine. What magic is this? Can I be sure that my health data is logged accurately from the lock screen?

Hi,

So, this is something I'm really struggling with. It seems that every time I try to use my Hackintosh I end up just going back to my MBP. While I like the faster hardware of the Hackintosh compared to the laptop, there's always the problem of synchronisation: even though I have Dropbox/ownCloud, iCloud and Mackup set up, sometimes I'm working on projects that aren't in those directories, or I'm missing an application I need which wasn't on the Appstore so now I've got to download it and go find the license email the vendor sent me some time in 2011, or an app doesn't sync it's preferences so now I have to take 30 minutes to set it up again. You get the gist.

Hi,

I recently solved the following simple problem from my statistics class using Swift:

Suppose you roll a 6 sided die N = 4 times. The sum of all numbers you receive is (a) S = 13 (b) S = 23. Calculate the amount of combinations which are compatible with this sum.

I tried to solve it in a functional way, but somehow I feel that this solution is a bit ugly. Here's what I have:

let dice = Repeat(count: 4, repeatedValue: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6])

func countNumberOfDiceSums(sumToFind : Int) -> Int {
    return dice.reduce([ [0] ]) { (accumulator, dieList) -> [[Int]] in
        dieList.flatMap({ (currentNumber) in
            accumulator.map({ listInAccu in
