I've been trying to figure out if there are any substantial differences between high profile and low profile drysuit exhaust valve. I understand that the lower profile ones are marginally less likely to get caught on stuff or knocked around, but are there any downsides as compared to their high profile counterparts? Basically, I just want to better understand the pros and cons. Not trying to ignite an Apeks vs SiTech debate, I swear!
Simple question about steel tanks: are Faber really the only company left that produces steel scuba tanks (since Worthington/XS Scuba stopped making them)? Or is it just that they're the only ones left in North America and there are other manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere that I haven't heard of?
I was having a conversation about drysuit squeeze today, and there's something we can't quite figure out. Physically speaking, what is the process through which a drysuit squeezes? I'm leaning towards a partial vacuum, but I'm not sure. We all know that as you go deeper the volume of air inside of the drysuit decreases, and eventually if it decreases enough the suit starts pressing on your body and squeezes you. That much is a given, anyone that has done more than 1 drysuit dive knows exactly what this feels like.
Here's the problem, though, and what we can't figure out: as the volume of air decreases, so does the volume of the suit. As such, the internal air pressure should remain (nominal
