I started some garlic about two weeks ago and when I checked on it today it had strong astringent chemical like smell instead of the usual garlicky aroma I have been used to.

This is my first time fermenting garlic, so I have no idea what to expect. I followed a guide I found online calling for a 2% brine solution to cover the garlic and to set it in a dark place for 3 to 4 weeks in a container with an airlock on it.

I think it looks alright, but what do I know? https://imgur.com/Bl4V8Az

Is this normal or did I make a batch of poison?

A typhoon hit my little town in rural Japan today. I had 4 huge plants growing in a dutch bucket style hydroponic set up made out of old concrete ditch sections sitting in my yard. Even though I tied them down they were totally destroyed. Snapped right off at the base. They were so heavy with fruit and full of life.

I got the branches inside and soaking in some nutrient solution I use for some of my indoor hydroponics. I'm going to try to clone them. I just hope it works.

The peppers were fully formed but hadn't started to change color yet. Does anyone know if I can ripen them off the vine? Like putting an avocado in a paper bag with a banana kind of thing? I'm probably grasping at

This is my first year growing super hots. I got some seeds off of eBay labeled 7 Pot Bubblegum and Moruga Scorpion. (I will be going with a more reputable vendor in the future.) The things I am growing don't look much like the pictures I see on the internet.

Here's what I got,

Do I really have a 7 Pot Bubblegum and a Moruga Scorpion or something completely different?

This http://imgur.com/a/BeLDW is a plant growing on my property here in eastern Japan, coastal Fukushima, that has me a bit perplexed. Last year I noticed about 2 sprouts of this in my front yard and this year it has completely taken over the partially shaded half of the walkway leading from my driveway.

Earlier this year, when I crushed the leaves they smelled of lemon, leading me to believe it was lemon balm, but when I picked some this evening and crushed the leaves the smell was closer to that of tomatoes with very little to no lemony sent.

I am an avid pipe smoker, but I dont have much experience with cigars. I want to make the jump and the impending birth of my daughter gives me the perfect excuse to justify buying a box to my wife.(to "hand out")

I have been reading reviews and articles on cigars, but I know it boils down to personal tastes. I am hoping someone out there has the same as me. That being English pipe tobaccos, my favorite blends being Sutliff's Berkshire and McClelland's Frog Morton. I am thinking about spending around 200 USD on a box.

I am not in the States, so I was thinking about picking up a box of Cubans, but thats only because of all the stuff I hear about them on TV.

Any suggestions would be great

Someone decided that their RES had gotten too big and decided that abandoning it on the side of the road was the best thing to do. I was out walking my dog and chanced upon it.

They are an invasive species where I live (Japan), so moving it to the nearest body of water wasn't an option (irresponsible and probably illegal), and I love turtles, so I took it home.

It is really a large animal, 21 cm long, so I am planning on building a little pond and keeping it outside(at least during the warmer months). I don't have the biggest of yards, but I have a couple of square meters that I can fence off and put a little pond in.

Anyone have any success with this? Anything I should look out for?
