Hi guys,

If you're new, welcome to r/AskScienceFiction, and if you're a returning user, welcome back! This subreddit is designed to be like the r/AskScience subreddit, but for fictional universes, and with all questions and answers written from a Watsonian perspective. That is to say, the questions and answers should be based on the in-universe information, rules, and logic of the fictional work. All fictional works are welcome here, not just sci-fi.

Lately we've been seeing some confusion over what counts as Watsonian, what counts as Doylist, what sort of questions would be off-topic on this subreddit, and what sort of answers are allowed. This stickied post is meant to address such u

Hi folks,

The poll on whether we black out again has concluded, and you can see the results here:
https://strawpoll.com/e6Z2876JwnN/results

The final result is approximately 71% in favor of reopening, and 29% in favor of another one-week blackout. Consequently, we are resuming normal operations. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on whether to take any further protest actions, please feel free to discuss them here in this thread.

Empress Jessamine's memorial ceremony in the throne room is interrupted by the arrival of Duke Luca Abelle and Delilah, who set the subsequent tragic events in motion. The Duke brought four guards, two clockwork soldiers (each twice the height of a person), and a carriage carried by two more guards, which held Delilah.

However, the rooftop throne room is only accessible by an elevator, which holds a maximum of, what, four people at a time? So how'd the Duke get everyone onto the rooftop and into the throne room?

TW: Discussions of rape in fictional and real-life contexts.

Goblins, also known as Goblins: Life Through Their Eyes, is a webcomic by Ellipsis Stephens.

First, a quick note: The webcomic's author, Ellipsis Stephens, is MtF transgender. Prior to her transition, she was known as Tarol Hunt, which was abbreviated to form the online handle Thunt. Thus, in some of the links herein you may see Stephens referred to as male, and by the name Tarol or Thunt.

The basic conceit of Goblins is simple. What if a group of goblins in a Dungeons and Dragons setting decided they were tired of being low-level fodder for newbie adventurers? What if they decided to bec

When Wheatley takes over Glados's body, he stuffs her inside a potato battery. Now, it's been established that a potato can generate enough power to keep Glados running, so that's not a problem. My question is where he found a fresh potato deep underground in the first place. Was it from one of those potato battery science projects that Chell had passed by earlier? Surely those potato batteries had run out of juice by now though?

The use of warp jumps in combat is rare enough that doing so has been given its own name, the Picard Maneuver (no, not the tunic thing). However, at least theoretically, it seems that short warp jumps would have tremendous utility in a fight. Dodging torpedoes, disorienting the enemy, repositioning to attack from an angle where the enemy's shields are weaker, etc. Is there an engineering, scientific, military, or logistical reason why ships don't use warp in combat more often?

Not very good photo of the dish.

I had this dish last October when I volunteered for a week at a charitable organization. The meals were prepared by volunteers from all over the world, so even though I had this dish in France, it may have originated from another country.

As far as I can tell, the ingredients are potatoes, boiled eggs, and some herbs and spices, all cooked together to form a stew. Despite its simplicity, it was utterly delicious. I think I went back for thirds or fourths. Since then I've tried to reproduce it, but my results have always fallen just a bit short. I'm guessing there was some specific herbs or spices in the dish that I don'

Similar to how all the leviathans are named. The DGR Degasi base is guarded by a Crabsquid that is always peering in at the player while they're exploring the base, which is unnerving at best, terrifying at worst. He has scared the living daylights out of enough players that, I believe, he deserves to be recognized with a name.

Any suggestions for names?

Massimilliano Florio was the best painter of his time, and possibly ever. There was no doubting his prodigious skill. His figures and landscapes were so realistic, they seemed to jump off the canvas. In particular, Florio liked to paint animals, especially animals in unusual or unconventional scenarios. One of his most famous works was "Dog in Chapel", which depicted a small beagle alone in a dimly-lit chapel, eyes closed and forepaws held together in veneration. The painter had somehow managed to create an expression of piety and tranquility on the simple features of the dog. Another popular Florio piece was "Butterflies in Ballroom", which showed a pair of vividly blue butterfly unmis
