I recently bought a car. While waiting for money to transfer from checking to savings I had a family emergency which required me to drive over 100 miles that day so I bought the car with 50% down and financed the rest. I read the paperwork and there is no early repayment fee. When the dealership pulled my credit I had a 723 from equifax and a 790 from transunion. The only thing bringing my score down is that I have never had a loan.

I will pay $84 interest the first month, which was worth it to me given the situation. I figure I might as well make sure the loan helps my credit. Is there any difference on the long term impact for my credit score if I pay it off in the first month vs over se

I’ve posted here recently but never got an answer for this and my situation has changed.

I thought I had a few more months on my car but 2nd gear went out and the axle broke this week. To get it running again and buy a few more months is $6000ish and making it street legal and safe again is upwards of $10k. My wonderful Honda Fit is done.

I am looking for a small hatchback that I can sleep in on road trips and when camping. It also helps with my anxiety about being homeless because I can always sleep in my car in a pinch. I want another Honda fit but there are not any available with less than 200k miles in my area. I might wait on one to pop up but I have been looking for months now wit

Long story short, as of yesterday my car is shot. I don’t know whether to buy a new one or not. I basically have three options.

1.) Buy a car. This is the most expensive option and I am picky. There is one car in the area currently that meets my standards (2017 Prius V wagon for $21k).

2.) Sell my broken car and take the bus. I did this for about 3 years before I bought my car. It is $30-60/mo. The bus runs every 30 minutes from my apartment to my job. If the bus is on time it only takes 10 minutes, but the schedule is limited and I am unable to work long hours for certain experiments. The bus routes are limited so the majority of the city will be off limits to me. I live next to a grocer

The rule of thumb seems to be 30% of your income, but that gives me only $12k as a budget which doesn’t buy much in the current market. I can still get a few months out of my current car, but it is becoming a hazard so I plan on buying the next newer model available in my area. They’re usually priced between $15k and $22k. I have $16,000 in savings right now and am putting about $1000 in my savings per month. The 30% rule just doesn’t seem realistic and doesn’t seem to account for a large down payment.

My ‘08 Honda fit has several major issues so I will need to replace it. I have gotten extremely emotionally attached and really don’t want a new car, but the time has come. There is a ‘15 fit with 78k miles on it for $17k that I am considering purchasing if I can get the price down to $15k. I’m not a fan of all the bells and whistles, or all the differences between it and my older model, but the color I want is rare and hatchbacks are hard to come by. I’m not in love with this car but I think it’s okay.

I think with a lot of research and some more time I could probably find a car that would last longer for a better price, but it definitely won’t be a hatchback and I will absolutely hate it

My ‘08 Honda fit is acting like she’s going to die and it probably won’t be worth it to repair her. I am extremely emotionally attached to her so I am heartbroken. I really want my current car, just functional. There is a purple 2015 fit with 78k on it for $17k in my area which I am considering, but that seems really expensive for an 8 year old car.

I make $40,000 and might be getting a promotion/raise in the next month. I have $16,000 in total so I was thinking $10k for a down payment? I drive 15-30 miles per week, but if I had a car that could go over 40mph I might drive a little more. I’ve never had debt or a loan so I don’t really know how that all works. I read that you can’t get a lo

I am planning to apply to graduate schools this year to start in fall 2024. I’m planning to save up enough money to supplement the meager stipends most schools offer, buy a newer car, and pay for the move. I can estimate vehicle and living expenses but I have no idea what moving costs. I am likely moving from Arkansas to Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, or Washington. I live in a two bedroom apartment with my partner who may or may not be able to move with me. I plan on giving away or getting rid of most of my furniture since it is all old and cheap and falling apart. I own 5 car-fulls of possessions/small furniture.

I’ve never moved states so I’m not familiar with what costs to expect or ways t

I’m planning on applying to biology PhD programs to start in fall 2024. I have several years experience working in cancer research labs in undergrad and work full time as a tech in a cancer lab right now. By the time I start my PhD I’ll have 2 years of full time work in this lab with at least one co-author publication and first author research that will be presented at a conference by my PI. I also have less than a years experience working in labs for neuroscience, plant metabolism, and microbiology(amoeba as a model for cancer pathways).

I keep finding myself drawn to microbiology research when I’m looking at programs. I am interested in infectious disease pathology, astrobiology, and anc

Once a year on the first weekend in December, target has a deal in their app for 10% off target gift cards. It is meant to encourage people to give gift cards as gifts, but I use this to pre-pay for groceries for the next few months.

I live in really low income apartments. My unit had water damage when I moved in but I didn’t have anywhere else to go, and I can’t afford anything better. The ceiling has been falling off into my shower for a few weeks now but it didn’t seem like a leak so I didn’t say anything. Tonight water started dripping from my ceiling. I’m fairly certain there’s mold and the ceiling is warped.

I’m going through a tough time right now mentally and I just can’t handle change. I do not trust the property management company at all. I don’t trust that maintenance wouldn’t steal or break my belongings or would remember to lock the door when they leave if I’m not home when they come. I am afraid of being

Hello.

I have searched high and low for recommendations, but the only ones I've found seem to be for big butts. I have lost weight recently and none of my jeans fit anymore. I am underweight and trying to gain it back, but I need jeans in the meantime. Because of this weight loss, my proportions are kinda odd. My size 2 jeans fit my legs (although a 4 might be better) , my size 0 or 00 jeans fit my butt, and my size 00 or 000 jeans fit my waist. Curvy jeans fit my thighs and waist well, but are baggy on my butt. I currently only have two pairs of jeans that kinda sorta fit and are being held up exclusively by my thighs and gap a little in the waist. I have been rotating between them, but m

I’m considering buying a car. I have never owned one before despite living in a state where most people consider it a necessity. I have a job and I am in college. My university gives us a free bus pass with our student ID. I can take the bus to school every day without too much hassle, but I usually have to catch it two busses early because it is not very reliable and I can miss it if I’m only 5 minutes early.

I walk to work. It’s about a 10 minute walk, but it is uphill all the way there and there is no sidewalk so I have to be careful not to get hit by a car since they can’t see me after a certain point. With global warming, my area had heat advisories not to be outside for more than 15
