Hello,

We have a Vostro 3500 that's not charging. (And of course the service contract we bought with it has expired.)

The charging jack seemed really loose so I decided to get a new one and replace it myself. It seems to have gone OK, and the jack feels much more secure when plugging the charger in, but when plugging the charger in the charging light comes on white for about 1 second and then goes off. And we have also tried with a different charger to make sure that's not the problem.

So at this point I'm thinking it's either the motherboard or the battery. Is there anything else I might investigate?

I have an old dimmer switch (old enough I can't remember when I put it in) on our dining room chandelier. It's a Legrand switch, just a single switch and a single light. The current wiring is one black & one white attached to two screw terminals on the switch.

Some of the bulbs (GE dimmable LEDs) started to burn out so I replaced them & the new ones flicker at top brightness, and make the remaining older ones flicker too. After a quick google, I came to the conclusion I probably needed a newer dimmer to work with the newer LED bulbs. So I bought a Lutron Lumea.

This switch expects white wire in & back out of the box and black in and black out connected to the switch.

So my questions are

My wife texted me at work that our front door lock wasn't opening with the key, though the inside knob worked fine. It just flat out wouldn't turn. (Kwikset deadbolt, not sure of model, it has SmartKey, probably 15 years old.) (We had keys to the back door so we weren't locked out or anything.)

The first thing I tried was the "misprogrammed lock" troubleshooting process from Kwikset (not that I'd tried to rekey the lock, but it was the closest thing to the symptoms). When that didn't work, I decided to take the lock off the door and see if I could see anything obvious wrong. When I pulled out the cylinder, this piece of metal fell out. And.... the cylinder would now turn when I put it back

So, last year I made this recipe in the "fridge" version. It came out well, I liked it, and I decided when cherries were in season again I'd make a few jars and do the canned version to keep them around longer.

I've been canning for several years to the tune of 2 or 3 batches a year--mainly pickled things, with pickled cocktail onions being my most frequent, but not only item. This is just to say that while I still consider myself a beginner, I've got enough experience that I think I generally know how things are supposed to go.

So I got 2 bags of cherries from the grocery store this afternoon, and proceeded to put up 5 pint jars

Touchscreen freezes after phone call

OnePlus Model 8 | 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Using my car's dash screen, when I receive or place a phone call, the screen stops responding to taps. I can't even hang up from the touchscreen. (The steering wheel button works fine.) The screen keeps updating the navigation or whatever else was running when the call came in, but it won't respond to any touches. I can "fix" it by plugging & unplugging the USB cable from the phone. Has anyone else run into this? Is there any fix?

I have been wanting to try some homemade tonic syrup for a while, and i was recently inspired to order some cinchona bark and give it a shot. And now I feel like I'm in a rabbit hole as far as technique, safety, etc......

I've decided to use the Morgenthaler recipe from his book, but it calls for bark powder for the tincture, and I have cut-up bark. (Looks like mulch, but the biggest pieces are maybe 1/2 inch long.) This obviously isn't going to dissolve like he says for the powder, so does anybody have suggestions for how long to steep? Regarding safety, is it possible to "over-steep," or will it reach a certain level of extraction and then stop? Thanks for any advice.

Actually NBD was this past Wednesday but I didn't have a chance to post. I haven't ridden for about 8 or 9 years but decided I wanted to start back again, and with my first road bike this time. It's a Jamis Aurora I got refurbished at a local bike shop. The day I bought it rain was coming, but I had about 30 minutes for a quick couple mile intro ride. Going up the hill to my house at the end, I tried to switch into an easier gear... and the chain didn't move on the cassette. So I shifted again. It was still on the same gear.... I tried again..... and.....

I had gotten completely confuzzled about which shifter was which and had been trying to shift in back with my left hand. Instead, I succe

I recently received The Best of Bogart Collection. There are 4 discs, and they come in a single case, with 2 discs on each half of the case. Each pair of discs is stacked together with nothing in between them, on the same post. I'm thinking this can't be a good idea for long-term storage.... is this really OK for the discs? I would have expected there to be an extra piece on a hinge as you usually see with multi-disc boxes.

I wondered if anybody has advice on the best way to move from Triple Play to a plan without TV. We currently have 100/100 internet, Extreme HD TV, and phone, but we've pretty much decided to ditch the TV service. (A driving factor is that our Tivo is on its last legs and we decided we didn't want to upgrade it or continue pay the annual charge on it.)

But the chat rep (bot?) basically told me any package without TV will be more than just a phone+internet package. (The best they could promise was moving us to the Custom TV package for $94/month with an autopay discount, we're currently at $134. That includes the $5 cablecard rental, which of course we can't drop because there'd still be a TV

So, 2009, we signed up for Fios and bought a Tivo, and we were set. We've always been happy with the Fios internet service and TV quality. But a couple months ago, the HDMI interface on the Tivo crapped out (we've been using the component video output), and at 10 years old it's obviously on borrowed time. And none of the current Tivo choices seemed good for us now. So, why not just ditch it and go with a streaming service like some of our friends have been suggesting? We talked it over and we figured we'd do it at least for a few months and if we were really unhappy, we could probably convince somebody to sell us some TV service again, right?

I cancelled my Tivo service witho

I have been attending a local Episcopal church semi-regularly for some time. Many of the people (mostly, though not exclusively, older members) will kneel and pray for a time after they've received Communion and returned to their pews, a practice I'm not familiar with from the Lutheran churches I grew up in.

So, I assume this is a practice that was once much more common than it is now (based on the demographics of the people that do it). Is this assumption correct? Also, what are the people praying? Is it generic personal prayer/reflection, or is there a specific prayer that's traditional?

I'd really like to have the coffee shop, which I miss from Wild World. But I have to have the museum gift shop first, soooo....

I have satisfied all the requirements that I know of (Mayor for at least a week, at least 20 items donated to museum, at least 1 in each of the 4 categories), and I've been at that point for several days (since I successfully got a non-forged art work from Redd). But Blathers has not yet asked me to build it! Is there anything else I can do to nudge the process along?
