I'm in Hummelstown.

I have a deck on the ground level. I'd like to add another above it, with stairs and a new entrance to the second floor.

I've never done work like this, so I'm doing my due diligence in researching but I'd like to ask for any recommendations.

Or if you have any words of advice/caution for me (first house, first contractor) specific to this region I'd be glad to hear it. Thanks!

My two favorites:

EchoPet - allows players to use almost any mob/animal as a pet that follows them around. They can even ride them (not cosmetic, as some can fly or move really fast) or wear them on their head.

SparkTrail - my favorite of a few available "player trails" plugins that let players show off by leaving a trail of flames, glitter, etc. as they move around.

What are your favorites?

Mojang has recently released their "Minecraft Realms" service in North America (it is already available in most of Europe). Minecraft Realms is a subscription service that allows players to have their own small, private server to which they can invite their friends and play together online without the hassle of setting up their own persistent world.

This is a really neat addition to the game, and it has been wanted for a long time. However, Mojang's implementation of it has exposed my children and any children that play (or have ever played) on any multiplayer servers to potential very easy targeting by child predators.

The problem is the way in which players can invite their friends t

I run what I believe is the largest whitelisted, rules-enforced kid-friendly Minecraft server. We have an extensive approval process, requiring signed forms from parents of kids under 13 in order for them to join our server. It is highly regarded by parents, and our mission and rules are primarily focused on the safety of the kids that play there.

For the past two years, we have had strict rules against sharing servers, private or otherwise. Our reasoning for this is that many of the kids on our server are there because their parents trust that they aren't viewing unsavory content, nor are they being solicited by child predators, and they also understand that we are fully willing to comply

I am posting this here because I know several of the developers read and post on this subreddit. I apologize if this is not the appropriate place for this discussion.

The current state of GriefPrevention is rather unusable for me.

I've heard mentions of 'many forks', but what I can find on github are either terribly unstable or just not updated.

Anyone know of either a fork or even another simple and "idiot-proof" alternative? I run a server for younger kids and I can't realistically expect them to be typing commands, etc. to protect their stuff. It's hard enough to get them to hold a gold shovel and click twice.

I am using "Legit" here to mean that the map will have no spawned items, and that everything on the map comes from the map. I do not mean "vanilla."

Anyway, with some of the new biomes being quite rare (mega taiga, ice spikes, and mesas), do you have a strategy in mind for coping with the inevitable rush to mine these new biomes clean of their new, non-renewable blocks?

My players are already talking about finding a mega taiga and harvesting all of the podzol, same with packed ice. I also worry that the beautiful mesas will look like they were carpet bombed within a few weeks.

We run an economy, so I'm sure these blocks will all have value due to their non-renewable nature, which would pr

I've defined my server as "100% legit" for a long time, but in discussing map resets, the question has come up: What does legit mean?

I've basically interpreted it as "everything on the map has come from the map itself." This would bar spawned items, obviously.

The question is: if you move structures that were constructed legitimately (using worldedit, etc.) from one map to a new map, does it make the new map any less "legit?"

Similarly, if you set up multiverse and allow a window of opportunity to move legit items from the old map to a new map, eventually removing the old map, does it make the new map less "legit?"

EDIT: clarifying wording

I know I can ask this over at r/buildapc or somewhere similar, but it's very specific to this demographic and I'd like some input or advice from others who have done this with the same goal in mind.

I'm strongly considering building my own rackmount server and getting it colocated. In looking at parts, I have a few questions.

Is there a major difference, from the point of view of a Minecraft server, in using server hardware versus desktop hardware? Specifically, I'm looking at Intel E3 series versus i7 3xxx or 4xxx series processors, and ECC versus non-ECC RAM.

Is an i7 any more likely to break down under consistent heavy load than an E3?

The cost difference between a desktop motherboar

The FTC recently strengthened COPPA Link.

I know there has been discussion on this in the past, but the new provisions clearly mention "geolocation information and persistent identifiers that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different websites or online services" This seems to clearly cover IP addresses, which all of us collect.

What does this mean for Minecraft server and their websites? Are you doing anything currently, or does this change anything for you? The standard penalty for violating this rule stands at $16,000, an amount I'm sure the vast majority of us (that don't have the word "cloud" in our name) can aff

I'd like to see a graph of online players on my server over time, so I can see the peaks/troughs and growth over time. Is there a website or tool out there that does this? Something like mcstats.org/Plugin Metrics but for servers?

I want it to ping my BungeeCord proxy and get player count from there, so it can't require a bukkit plugin of any kind. I did all kinds of searching using every terminology I could think of and I just can't find this, though I can't believe it doesn't exist.

I thought I’d write this up as information for anyone who is considering doing this. It was a lot of work, and I’m still tweaking things and fixing things I don’t like, but overall I still feel it was entirely worth it.

Some background info:

• I’m on a dedicated box from OVH

• I use a custom wrapper that I wrote (bash script)

• I run everything off of a ramdisk

• My original server had: Normal and Easy difficulty worlds (both with nether/end), a creative world, and several pvp worlds using SurvivalGames and BattleArena.

• Permissions all set up with GroupManager

Why I decided to switch to BungeeCord

My players were really growing to love the SurvivalGames and Battle Arenas, b

My wife and I are expecting our first child within the next month. Since my wife is the breadwinner, I get to be a stay-at-home dad. I've just quit my job, and I'm home all day trying to get things ready.

Everyone says that you can do all you want, but you're never ready to bring your first child home. I'm sure that is true to an extent, but is there anything I should be doing in these last few weeks? Is there something you wish you had done before he or she arrived? If you could go back and had weeks to prepare, what would you have done differently?

Thanks for any advice!
