My original Kickstarter-era Yaw VR unit has been sitting and collecting dust for a few years. As far as I know, it should still be fully functional. It’s free for whoever wants to come pick it up in San Francisco and will actually get use out of it.

Apologies in advance if this pushes too far into self-promotion, but when we launched Framework Desktop, AMD also announced that they would be providing 100 units to open source developers based in US/Canada to help accelerate local AI development. The application form for that is now open at https://www.amd.com/en/forms/sign-up/framework-desktop-giveaway.html

I'm also happy to answer questions folks have around using Framework Desktop for local inference.

Like many of you who have tried gardening in the city, raccoons and rats manage to eat much of what I try to grow. I’ve had luck with herbs of various kinds, limes, asparagus, and peppers in the small patch of sunlight I have where they will grow. Anyone have any other city-friendly garden plant ideas that work in our climate?

Since I saw a few questions and comments around this, I thought it would be worth giving some additional context. We've done two press hands on so far with the Framework Laptop 16.

  1. Linus with an extremely early EVT unit in March: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeCdBVHYa_8. EVT hardware is directionally correct from an industrial design and electrical architecture standpoint, but is using mockup mechanical parts, and an immature electrical and software design. It exists to be the first test of the overall architecture, start electrical validation, finalize the mechanical design in order to kick off tooling, and to be a platform to develo

We recently announced a full CNC version of the Top Cover alongside the 12th Gen Intel Core upgrades for the Framework Laptop. This week, we also launched a new Hinge Kit variant on the Marketplace with 4.0kg force, higher than the default Hinge Kit with 3.3kg force. Since lid rigidity and hinge behavior is sometimes a source of confusion, we wanted to provide more background on it!

Top Cover

On the original Top Cover in the Framework Laptop, we used an aluminum forming process to shape the lid from a sheet of aluminum, followed by milling steps and adhering in a plastic inner fr

Today, we’re expanding availability of the Framework Laptop to a little more of the world. Pre-ordering is now open in Ireland, Austria, and the Netherlands. Last week we also started shipping laptops to pre-orderers in the UK, Germany, and France. Just like our previous launches, pre-orders in Ireland, Austria, and the Netherlands require only a fully refundable €100 deposit. The balance will be collected just before we start shipping in these countries in March.

We’re bringing the Framework Marketplace to the UK and Eur

Sorry for the issues on the website. We're getting something like 200x the normal traffic, and about 10x the peak of what we've faced before, all due to this fantastically positive video from Linus Tech Tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rkTgPt3M4k

Some quick notes:

  1. Our development team is making a range of server improvements to handle the load. They are based in Europe, so will be making those changes during what will be the night in the US and Canada. The website should be more functional tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27th).
  2. If you tried to place an order and are unsure if it completed successfully, reach out to our support team at [

Raspberry Pi's are amazing from a cost, form factor, and GPIO perspective, but they're a little underpowered to use for a PC. I'm currently developing something that may be an interesting higher performance alternative, and I wanted to check what folks here would find useful in a cyberdeck mainboard.

Low stack height? Integrated cooling? Connectors along a specific edge? Specific types of I/O? Integrated battery support? I'm interested in hearing your ideas!
