We're facing heavy server load at the moment!

Sorry for the issues on the website. We're getting something like 200x the normal traffic, and about 10x the peak of what we've faced before, all due to this fantastically positive video from Linus Tech Tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rkTgPt3M4k

Some quick notes:

  1. Our development team is making a range of server improvements to handle the load. They are based in Europe, so will be making those changes during what will be the night in the US and Canada. The website should be more functional tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27th).
  2. If you tried to place an order and are unsure if it completed successfully, reach out to our support team at [email protected]

suggestion for a new laptop if you make another base and motherboard. leave a USB c port as not an addon. lol, you will probably save some money and the user will always need one that is not sunken in.

suggestion 2: for a huge premium make a foldable ethernet jack adapter

a lot of nerds are going to buy it :)

I agree with both of these suggestions. I would personally die for a 2.5gbe port, those are rare on laptops and they are super cheap on amazon for a normal usb adapter.

I agree as long as there is at least one on both sides built in for the usb-c.

I have a question, do you think that you will have enough sales for it not to be sold out. One of the companies that I was looking for buying a laptop is System76 and have been affected by the chip shortage which caused many of their models to be sold out. Currently looking for a laptop for college. Thank You!

Why did I not find any of this earlier? :/

We have material being staged to cover a fairly large number of laptops, so short of some unreal number of orders landing when our server can take orders again, we shouldn't sell out entirely. However, we do have a batch system with a specific number of systems in each batch, with later batches shipping later.

Hi, since you are conveniently here, I wanted to ask a question.

From the Linus video, it seemed like the laptop had a modular keyboard option. Are there any plans to release other keyboard layouts like Ortho Linear or release the tools for users to create their own Ortho linear keyboard designs?

We're going to be releasing different ANSI and ISO keyboard languages, and the keyboard module is replaceable. For entirely different layouts like ortho, it is technically possible, but the tooling costs would be insanely high.

I understand. Does this mean user DIY options might not be possible?

You may well be underestimating how much we would pay for an ortho laptop keyboard...

Should make a Dvorak option

Do you think there might be a difference with System76 because of their reliance on Clevo as an upstream supplier of laptops?

Linus' ability to break things has ascended to another plane of existence. He no longer even has to come into contact with it to kill it LOL. It's great that you're getting the attention though.
