Do you have 1-2 dramas that you have watched and they ruined a genre (romance, thriller, saguek, makjang etc.) for you? In a good way? Meaning, the bar is now high and rightfully so?

As I check out the newly released sageuks for the season (or past few months), I remember that it's been so hard for me to give one a chance ever since The Red Sleeve back in 2021. I never considered the history and very real implications of anyone in royalty having a relationship with a commoner or in this case, a royal consort. It gave a tough approach towards what Doek Im had to consider >!(and essentially give up) !<by falling in love and agreeing to be Prince Yi San's concubine. It really centered the cou

Let's play a game where a drama is being persecuted for being criminally flawed in plot, cast or cinematography but you're defending them pro bono... what drama are you representing and how are you defending your case?!

Please describe what 'charges' the drama you are representing is being persecuted for and your defense against these charges.

If we were to pull my reddit comment history, I've been on the front lines defending Nevertheless ever since it first premiered...just found out it's a 7.4 on MDL....

It never falsely advertised that it would be any thing other than a romantic, sensual, toxic mess! Na-bi's narration and inner dialogue is direct to viewer and she says many, many, MAN

Regardless of the content of the drama, what are some of the most memorable opening title sequence whether it's due to the visuals, cinematography, song or typography?? Even if it is just your favorite drama "thumbnail"! I wanna geek out over some drama's even if the full season isn't worth committing too!

Call it Love (2023): Anyone who has seen the opening title sequence to this drama understands why it's here. It invokes nostalgia, wonder and peace just with a few images! My favorite is the color grading and the coloring montage for the title!

I am not even sure that is the right verbiage but I have been enjoying slowly looking for books that lend towards a more realistic take on the human conditions of people in love. I didn't post this in the romance forum because those are typically happily ever after and I don't necessarily need that. Some books I have thoroughly enjoyed:

  • Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake
  • Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson
  • A Course of Love by Alain de Botton

The first two often slip into a stream of consciousness that can come across a bit confusing or pretentious but I really enjoy that in my books. All of these endings are ambiguous and not necessarily HEA. Thank you in advance!

Best Dramas for a Holiday Binge ?

Recommendation Request

I think I did this exact same thing last year but I am trying to get opinions on the best kdrama to binge for this holiday weekend. I feel like with the first half of the year alot of dramas were not accessible to me because of the Disney+ platform. My interest or drive to binge kdramas kinda fizzled a bit.

Now I feel like much more dramas have been added to Hulu, not to mention quite a few have been added to Netflix. In your opinion what is the best for a holiday weekend binge? It doesn't have to be short, I just have a bit of time to invest for a few hours and I am more than willing to watch something 16+ episodes if I can get halfway through it within the next few days!

The appeal woul

Throughout the past three years, I never understood why people would say they absolutely detest a specific trope or plot line until now. I want to clarify by saying I don't necessarily detest this trope or plot point but I definitely will be very hesitant moving forward.

In the beginning of the summer I finished From Now On, Showtime! and for the most part I enjoyed it --- there was a comedic aspect even though the main storyline was a bit odd. I also think Jin Ki Joo did a phenomenal job of making the dynamic between her and Park Hae Jin palatable and funny. He was a bit stiff at times but I have to admit, most of his roles I have seen

I started this because I’ve been having trouble finishing dramas as well as long form (20-50) … I just run out of steam but this one is 8 thirty minute episodes and it was bizarre yet wholesome!

Synopsis:

Gyeo Wool might look like just another normal high school student but in reality, she harbors a dark secret: she’s actually a trained killer. Posing as a transfer student to hide her true identity, Gyeo Wool does her best to blend in, but it’s not easy. Especially not after she meets Yeo Reum.

Unlike his classmates, Yeo Reum spends most of his life feeling nothing at all. Having experienced extreme trauma in the past, Yeo Reum is only able to feel alive when he’s in pain. Accepting

Flashback to October 2021 and my DHS case worker kindly lets me know that I would be losing the $150 food stamp benefit as of 12/31/2021 due to my income. Disappointing yes but at that time, it was doable for me to be financially paycheck to paycheck (in theory of course).

I have a one bedroom apartment for $938/mon (at the time )for myself and my two children, car insurance $140/mon, phone bill, electricity, gas, high speed internet (I went fully remote for my job in 2020) and $425/mon daycare fees (this is after the state pays 75% of the weekly tuition). My wages at the time were about $17.93/hr and I consistently work 40 hr/week. I have medical insurance for myself, vision and dental for

I finished Woori the Virgin almost two weeks ago and I have been so miffed I thought it would be time to finally post a review and my thoughts... I will admit that my disappointments may have been self inflicted; I ended up watching the first four episodes on air and it immediately left me longing for more. I binged at least 12 episodes of JTV to pass the time until the new episodes were released but I think that may have set my expectations way too high!

Synopsis: Oh Woori is the assistant writer of a popular drama series. She has vowed to remain a virgin until she marries, and has shied away from romantic relationships in a bid to remain chaste until she marries. She is dating the dev

I am currently reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt and it is making me want to seek out k-dramas that may be the same vibe.... I immediately think of The Devil Judge as a prime example. The mansion they lived in, dark setting, controversy within the plot. There was barely any romance but so much sexual tension between the villainess and Yo Han! I also feel like Chicago Typewriter may fit this vibe but I have never gotten through it... may have to change that.... Any recommendations are appreciated!
