A common aphorism I see is "Tolkien invented the fantasy genre" and it got me thinking about the genre as a whole and what has shaped it over the years.

Maybe it was the first to introduce some tropes we take for granted nowadays. Maybe it was the best written fantasy series at the turn of the century and went on to create a cultural craze. Maybe it was just an important moment in what could or would be put on page.

What can you recommend to get an idea of how we got to the fantasy as a whole of today?

I have a problem with my Bluetooth speaker and Pixel Buds Pro 2 where the Bluetooth seems to connect on a worse featured version of Bluetooth. Let me try to explain.

When I went from a pixel 6 to the 9 pro my Bluetooth speaker connected and my phone controlled the absolute volume of it (which never happened before). Previously it was like the volume on my phone and the volume on the speaker were separate and I could adjust them independently, but now (normally) there's just one absolute volume control and my phone volume and the speaker volume were tied. Cool new feature I thought, but now it tries to return to the old way.

On my pixel buds they worked like they should for a few months, bu

One of my favorite mods for Skyrim is Legacy of the Dragonborn, where you get a museum to show off all the shiny unique items you can collect (and so much more, it's an amazing mod).

Similarly I loved Fallout 4 and its base building because I had something to do with those hundreds of usueless items I was squirreling away.

I recently got into State of Decay 2 and it gave me those same vibes, but seems to run a bit contrary to the point of the game. You're supposed to go out and murder zombies and zombie bosses to clear the town and move on to the next area and do it all over again. Whereas I just want to sit in the same place a

I'm trying to build a new PC and have got a Gigabyte Z790 EAGLE AX motherboard paired with a Samsung 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 SSD. There will eventually be a second NVME drive and an older SATA disk drive, but currently only the 990PRO is installed for first time setup.

I tried putting the drive in the M2A_CPU and the BIOS just refused to detect it. I thought maybe it's a compatibility issue and updating the BIOS from F1 -> F3e would fix it, but no luck. (For reference, the drive is listed as compatible with the board by Gigabyte).

I moved the drive down to the M2P_SB slot and it was detected just fine and was able to install windows no problem, so it looks like the drive itself is working just fi

I'm struggling to find fun things to do in the middle of the week when I actually have days off. It's great for making doctors appointments but hard to find anywhere I could just meet some people or be sociable. Food fests or farmers markets or... ren faires? (I'm reaching for ideas here) all seem to be a Saturday/Sunday thing.

All the things I normally do are more solo like hiking or a movie or sitting at home reading a book. Honestly I'm probably just terrible at meeting people, but I'm trying and looking for some ideas here. I tried Meetup but it's pretty sparse. I really only found volleyball on weekdays, which wasn't bad, but it's 100+ out right now.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing someth

I really enjoy the collecting and power increasing mechanics that a lot of mobile F2P games use, and I'm looking for something like that that's an actual game and not a psychological hook to get you to open your wallet and buy a hundred different $0.99 - $29.99 gem bundles.

Lately I've been playing Isekai: Slow Life on mobile, and there's a lot to complain about (gratuitous anime waifus, time gated mechanics, hard to compete without whale spending), but I really like the collecting characters to make a more powerful team, and all the different mechanics (fishing, farming, adventuring, etc.) that can make your village income "go up".

I never played much Fantasy Life on the Nintendo DS, but

I thought I loved this game, but the more I play, the more infuriating I find it.

I'm over in Gale Cliffs, the second area as far as I can tell and not that far in. I've got a trawl net, I've got crab pots, I've got the 2nd big boat upgrade, but no matter what I do it feels like I'm wasting time and losing money.

Currently, I'm looking for the night eels in the area, to deliver a rotting one (like a day old in inventory, so you've got to dick around for 24 hours). I go find it, bam, asshole fish breaks my boat and I lose it. Finally find another after a few nights, and got too far away I guess to return it, now it's just Rot. Repeat a third time, some spooky goo jumps in my boat and corr

Say I'm on a Mega or 1fichier or any other supported hoster page and want to download the file. Is there any way to reduce the steps of

  1. new tab
  2. go to RD
  3. click downloads
  4. realize I forgot to copy the url from the last tab so switch back
  5. paste url back into debrid tab
  6. generate link

Absolutely simple as far as questions go, but search just gives me complicated home theater setups or link sharing with friends.

All I want is a browser plugin or something that turns 6 steps back into a download button.

I noticed 5+ hours in when I changed over from katana to mantis blades that they kill performance. I lose 10-15 fps and have consistent frametime spikes.

These graphs are from the exact same area in the middle of a street. All I did was change weapons in the same place.

Gun out

Blades out

I haven't noticed this with any other weapon and thought it might be ray tracing related (still might be, doesn't happen with RT off) because I tried the electrified blades first, but it's the same with basic blades too.

Any other ideas, or has my katana vs mantis blade decision just been made for me?

The only thing I like more than a good rhythm game is a good rhythm game with something else fun tacked on.

I'm looking for rhythm game gameplay in the game, not just music timing related. That leaves out great examples like Hi-Fi RUSH and Crypt of the NecroDancer, but feel free to comment on others like them. I'd love to hear your favorites.

Lately I've really been enjoying ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree. It's a kind of adventure puzzle game, but the combat (there's not that much) is done

tldr; For some people, every time your battery goes down 1%, input freezes for a second then "catches" up (obviously without rhythm timing). I wish I was making this up.

I got really good at Project Sekai while unemployed with way too much free time on my hands (currently lvl 218). I took a break for a bit once I started working, came back, and was having a rough go of it.

Nothing unusual so far, just needed to work some rust off I figured. I just had the hardest time getting a full combo in much of anything. I got back to the difficulty I previously played at, got better even, but I constantly felt like i was 99.9% sure I wa
