I take Southern rail and the Thameslink more or less every day for work and I've noticed that lately it's really common for someone to pass through the carriage, usually selling tissues, asking for money. They often have a card with them that's written in the same font/same size and usually the same sort of text about having a young child and being unable to afford rent. I don't usually carry cash but will try and give them my spare change if I have it. I was wondering if anyone else had seen this, if there's a reason that they seem to carry the same card? It doesn't seem profitable to sell the tissues considering how few people give them money. And what's the best way to help these people?

Hi all. Like many Londoners I live in a small rented room (big enough for a bed and a wardrobe and that's it). We have no common areas save for the kitchen and bathrooms.
I'm aware some are of the mentality that you shouldn't leave your house at all except to get food and most people who are in the parks right now are frowned upon. While I'm friendly with my housemates I'm going a bit mad stuck in my room that's barely wider than the length of my body. I am decently tall and can't work out in here or in the bathrooms or kitchen without smacking into a wall/countertop/unsuspecting housemate.
I'm currently sort of working from home but my job is practical (sound engineer) and there's not a h
I'm going alone and have standing tickets, I'd like to get there early so I can get to the front. Would be nice to make some friends and queue together etc - I'm in my twenties, am pretty chill and will bring snacks to share.
Apologies if this is a silly question. I'm fairly active in my social dancing scene and am getting more seriously into it (Lindy and blues for the most part). I'd like to find a partner to practice with regularly in a private space, learn aerials, and potentially even compete if we get to that standard. I'm part of the local dancing FB group but I don't know anyone closely enough to ask, or how to ask. I'm 21 and would prefer someone a bit closer to my age but don't mind too much.
Is there a forum of people looking for dance partners? I have some acquaintances in the scene but they're all self professed casual dancers and wouldn't be interested in getting involved further than social dance
This past weekend has been the Passover Seder and I've spent a few days with my extended family. It's been great! Everyone gets along, there's a warm sense of belonging. There are a few little kids and they're all very well disciplined, sweet and funny.
My mum sat next to me and said how "tragic" and "heartbreaking" it was when people didn't have kids. Plenty of bingoes - legacy, who will take care of you, baaabbieees are so cuuute - but she made her opinion very clear. That it would be a tragedy not to have children. The rest of my family share this opinion, from what I can gather.
Now, I know it's easy to say "fuck em!" but my family are my rock. I have good friendships and a work life a
If there existed a profiterole that was just pastry and no cream, I would be all about that life. If I get a warm slice of pie or a pancake or waffle etc etc that has a scoop of ice cream on top, it immediately makes it terrible. It cools down the warm pastry and makes it soggy, and often the flavours get overwhelmed by the ice cream.
Hey everybody! I'm UK based and myself and all my friends work in the film industry, so Oscars night has become a big tradition where we hang out at someone's house and watch them all together - the Oscars are screened in the UK from about midnight onwards. I've put myself forward to cook this year and am really strapped for ideas. I'm leaning towards finger food which I've got limited experience in, would love to hear your best party food/food that you think would work for late night eating. I've got probably about six-seven hours to prep and cook everything as I'm up early that morning for work. I'd class myself as an intermediate cook but a TERRIBLE baker. Any and all ideas welcome, thank
Hi all, ltl, ftp, nice to meet you! I work in the film industry and oftentimes my work takes me away from home for anywhere between a week and a month. I also work really varied hours. Sometimes I can be on set for sixteen hours, other times I'll show up for four hours of prep for a shoot. Pretty much no day is the same. So it's hard to say that I'll go to the gym on x days (when I'm home I go 4x a week). While I eat well and meal prep as much as possible, my eating times can vary as well. This definitely hinders my progress. Would love to hear from anyone in a similar boat in how you reach your goals and carve out time for regular exercise. Thanks in advance!
I've been out of London for a week or so on a really intensive job where I've been getting around 4 hours of sleep a night. I'm fine, but just as I got onto the Victoria line platform my legs just gave out and I basically face planted onto the platform.
Not a single person made eye contact with me. No one acknowledged me as I got up. A mother actually shuffled her kid away from me. It was fucking hilarious, it is so good to be home.
Title is self explanatory. I'm new to lindy and am doing my best to get better, but I often feel stiff and awkward and sometimes a step behind my lead. What are the best ways I can improve? Any must-knows for follows? Thanks!
Hi all. Just started going to the gym and going on that health kick. I eat a small amount before and after, and prep food mostly in the mornings and on Sundays. Any recipe ideas that I can eat cold, are relatively portable, and are good for post workout?
I go about 4x a week and do a small amount of cardio but mostly weights. I'm just starting out so I'm weak af, but looking to build muscle the healthy way. Shake recipes also welcome, as I haven't broached that territory yet. Thanks!
