I’m not too upset about it. She’s 80, she does forget things sometimes, but come on, Mom. Every time I mention it, she’s honestly shocked, she’s NEVER heard me tell her I was autistic before, she had no idea!

At least she wrote it down this time, I guess. But I don’t think she wants to remember, so she just lets it fall out of her head.

I don’t actually need advice, it’s just the same old same old that all of us deal with on a daily basis. I come in to work the closing shift, the first thing my (awesome and very hard working) mid says is, “I’m so sorry.” Why? We’re out of lemonade, sleeves, green tea, caramel, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, stoppers, and espresso beans. Cool. Oh, and we have two sick partners so were understaffed. She’s been calling all morning to find coverage but I may or may not have a closing barista tonight. Dm won’t turn off mobile. We’re on a two floor from 1:30 until close tonight, and if no one covers the closing shift I guess I’m locking the doors, ignoring the mobile orders, and just doing

I work in a coffee shop. I have a cold. Since sick days for hourly workers don’t really exist in this country, I’m at work with a cold and an apron pocket full of cough drops.

Thinking nothing if it, I pop a cough drop while I’m sweeping the cafe and a child sees me do this. Apparently she’s very upset that I have candy and she doesn’t, which I’m not aware of at first because I tune out most customer conversations. Then the mom comes up to me.

Mom: Hi, can my daughter pretty please have a piece of candy? We’re teaching her about sharing and she knows how important it is to bring treats for everyone, so could you please share?

Me: ...what?

Mom: The candy in your pocket. I can see you ha

Holiday attitudes sure have, though! The temperature drops and, bam!

I've had three calls in the last three hours to the tune of, "Uhhhhhh, yeah, I ordered four venti, extra caramel, caramel frappuccinos with extra shots and they were all wrong and the lady I talked to this morning, or maybe it was a guy, he or she said you'd just make me new ones and also I need a refund for my trouble."

Bruh. Buh-ruh. Who do you think you are? Frank Abagnale? You're not a smooth con man. The answer is no. And get a better story.

And just now, I had a lady take merch off the shelf while I watched and try to return it for cash without a receipt. Noooooooooo. Go away now. Bye. Buh-bye. Out of the store,

Wolves have no need for the concept of time. Humans do. The closing time posted in three different places in the actual cafe, on the website, and in the mobile app is, indeed, the time that we close. How are you shocked? We haven't made a sale in 45 minutes. We've swept the lobby, tucked the leftover pastries in the donation bin, and given you a fifteen minute warning so you can wrap up whatever you're doing and not be surprised when it's time to go.

Yes, I am fucking serious. Also, please don't curse.

No, I can't just wait for your buddy to get here. It's closing time. That means you go away. No, it's not like a restaurant where they let you just sit there for hours after closing. Also, d
