reddit.comHi all,
Wanted to sanity check a strategy around RSUs and capital gains in the UK, plus a practical question on execution.
My understanding is:
- RSUs are taxed as income at vest, and the remaining shares get a cost basis equal to the market value at that time
- If I sell those shares immediately (or same day), there should be little to no capital gain
So the idea would be:
- Sell RSU shares at vest (minimal/no CGT impact)
- Then sell additional shares from an existing holding up to the annual CGT allowance
- Repeat yearly to gradually reduce the position tax-efficiently
Simple example (purely illustrative):
Let’s say I hold shares in a company like Microsoft:

Hi all! My contract is coming up for renewal, but CF haven’t been able to offer a discount so far. I’m interested in the 2.5 Gbps Premium WiFi Full Fibre Broadband package. I’m currently on the 1 Gbps Fibre Broadband (Standard) plan, which I signed up to two years ago, prior to the introduction of CGNAT. Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully negotiate a good renewal discount?
Hey everyone, had a random thought today and wanted to hear from people who are genuinely wealthy.
We all work to support ourselves and our families, and money plays a huge role in that. But I’ve always wondered what’s it actually like to check your bank account and see a massive balance? Do you ever think twice about purchases or does money stop being a concern? Do you deal with jealousy from others? What inspires you to keep going or even potentially earning more?
For context, I earn just under £90K a year. I live comfortably, but I still have to budget, long-haul trips are out this year and even short European breaks need to be planned carefully. I want to earn more and experience more
Just curious to see how much savings people tend to have/keep? By savings I mean money in a savings account/cash ISA; not investments
Hi all,
I would like your opinions on buying a car.
I am currently looking at two options:
- Lease a car with a maximum budget of £300 per month, with a maximum deposit of £5K, on a 4 year lease.
- Purchase a used car outright, maximum of £15K.
I have the cash available for it, which is currently just sitting in my bank account. Of course the difference between the two is that leasing will give me a brand new car from the factory whilst £15K would probably get me a 2020-2022 car (with the options I’m looking at).
If I have the money; that won’t be required for anything major at the moment + it’s just sitting there, is it justifiable to spend that much on a car?
Hi all,
Can someone advise me how I should look to maximise returns/savings/be more tax efficient?
- £145,000 savings in a 2.47% Savings Account (Taxable interest)
- £21,009.57 in a Stock and Savings ISA (£20K initially invested) from Tax Year 2023/2024. Currently invested in ETFs.
- £20,000.00 in a Stock and Savings ISA that was transferred from an old provider. Currently, no investments - just the “Cash” ready to invest
- £50,000 in NS&I Premium Bonds. So far, I’ve won £725 in prizes since May 2024 (when I first opened the account)
- £19,487 in Pension 1 (from old job)
- £46,000 in Pension 2 (from current job/pension)
- Have a mortgage on a flat; current value of flat is around £330,000
Hi all,
I work for a US tech company, which offers RSU’s as part of their compensation.
Each vesting window, I am given a certain amount of RSU’s (to which nearly half are sold to cover UK Income Tax and National Insurance). I am then given the remainder.
I have been issued RSU’s since 2019 and have never sold them. I am planning on selling these in the next vesting period, however, I would like to confirm if my understanding of the “Share Pool Price” or the Section 104 Rule is correct:
Date of Vest Share Price at time of vest Quantity (the remainder given after the IT and NI) Total Share Value (USD) Total Share Value (GBP) - the rate used for USD > GBP Conversion is the rate at the time
Hi there,
I am trying to organise my Finances and would love some advice on how to manage them effectively. I am 30, working full time and have a property with a mortgage.
Currently, I have:
£137K in an everyday “savings” account @ 2.67% Gross Interest (this interest is costing me in tax, as my PAYE tax code has been lowered, due to the interest I’m earning)
£50,000 in NS&I Premium Bonds (keeping this for multiple rainy days)
£20,100 in a Stocks and Shares ISA with active ETF’s, from previous tax year
£20,000 in another Stocks and Shares ISA, with no active ETF’s. I created it this Tax Year and I am looking to see what else I can diversify and invest in.
£60,000 in my Pension
I alway
