I have played a lot of SMB2 and SMB3 and have been trying out the 4th iteration during the free weekend on steam. My biggest issue so far is that pitching against the AI becomes exceedingly difficult once you hit the 80 ego threshold and Im not particularly sure what options I have. Due to my experience with these games (and my relative lack of problems with this in pennant race) I dont think it's a skill issue either.
Are there any new pitching mechanics or AI hitting mechanics that would have made this more difficult (I have tried mixing in regular speed pitches in addition to exclusively power pitching as per usual with no noticeable impact)?
