Let's have an inspirational Friday - what random acts of kindness have you done or have people done for you?
Edit: The link I am alluding to is here
Steve Bell is a brilliantly surreal artist who draws a comic for the UK newspaper The Guardian.
Link: Belltoons
He's a political satirist who is famous for his dark style - he is very influential, so much so that for the Labour Party Conference where the new leader (Ed Miliband) has just given his first speech, he is being interviewed by the BBC to gauge his opinions on the new young leader.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
It's a rare lovely sunny day today and I was listening to The Flamin Lips - Race for the Prize on the way to work and by the time I got here I was feeling prettay prettay chuff-tastic.
So c'mon people, which songs put you in an awesome mood?
Some others of mine:
Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia
REM - Talk about the passion
I have been working at the same place (American investment bank in the UK) for 5 years, worked my ass off, have been promoted a couple of times, constantly being told by senior management how indispensable I am - helped the department grow and have (in my opinion) left a legacy. 6 months ago I meet a cool guy at an industry conference - we get on great, we swap details and keep in touch. Turns out that his best friend who lives in the same city as I do is recruiting for a Product Manager at a successful web company. We meet, get on great and start meeting regularly for coffee - long story short he offers me a fantastic job for £8k more than I earn now, use my Comp Sci degree, great benefits.

I need your advice please Reddit! I work in a behemoth Financial Institution and I am recruiting for a Analyst. The role requires the analyst to be technically able (being able to write VB/ VBA code and well versed in SQL) and be able to interpret business requirements - not only when provided with a Project Spec but also have the ability to see where they can add value - "oh you use an Excel spreadsheet to do what?! I can automate that for you!" that kind of thing.
The job advert has gone out and I am trying to think of pertinent interview questions I can use - my company use a competency based interview standard (in a nutshell: key word bingo) and I want to move away from that as much as
...can be an oldie that you've just discovered or even a re-read.
Mine: The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Edit: And the worst book I've read this year is Superfreakonomics by Levitt and Dubner - one of the most patronising and self congratulatory books I have read in a long time!
