I'm not here to rag on 1047, but this is gonna be a post full of hopefully constructive criticism. I've been thinking about this a lot recently with the announcement of Empulse and I think I have a pretty good grasp on the really only 2 mistakes they're making with their games.
For starters, I'd argue that games/franchises that are generally considered good/great or are at least popular have unique identities. In the shooter space - Titanfall is/was a completely new experience, CS when it came out, CoD during the Xbox 360 era where it gained all of its popularity, Halo, Unreal, Battlefield, Destiny, etc. 1047 games haven't been unique - Splitgate is Halo with portals and was marketed as suc
Just checking in to see if portal spam in arenas and armor snowballing in royale have been addressed? I’m tryna play some splitgate.
Setting aside with my general complaints with the looting/shop system as I'm a proponent of no looting, all shooting - the shield system is so busted and the more I play the more frustrated I get. Its a messy hybrid system where you can loot shield upgrades from bins (which means rng health, especially at the start of a match), but not from dead bodies (even though we used to be able to in the BR) and otherwise you have to wait to collect enough money to upgrade (which comes with its own rng cause you can loot it or get it through kills). It creates a wildly inconsistent experience where I can fight someone with 2 upgrades off the rip and even after 5 kills I sometimes dont have the money fo
I don't see why its still the case that you are forced to loot to start the match and once you die you respawn with a loadout. Either do loadouts or do looting - not both - its clunky. If I have to loot of the rift, then I should respawn with said loot. If I drop in with a loadout then I respawn with a loadout. Please someone explain why a hybrid option between looting and loadouts was chosen cause it makes no sense to me (and the reasoning better not be because there are tiered weapons/equipment/portal charges because the tier system makes no sense aside from for armor.
I was hoping they would have taken the time to solve the problems with the br but clearly all they did was reduce player
Like it or not, this game probably won’t make it. The skill ceiling is incredibly high and nothing is being done to address it. Movement shooters less difficult than this one struggle to make it and the F2P model isn’t helping at all. I think instead of a relaunch a rework away from portal shooters could be a cool idea. This obviously would take at least another year of development but could work and I doubt would flop so hard. What I’d like to see, given the assets already available, is a Destiny 1 style shooter minus the classes and open world PvE aspects - just the multiplayer. No supers! Current factions could function similarly to Destiny factions where you could join one and level up w
I think recent trends, and the launch of this game, have shown that the F2P monetization strategy was more of a fad. It takes a large playerbase and constant effort making new, evermore enticing cosmetics for it to work. And to be frank, this game will never have a large playerbase, the skill ceiling is just too high. The beta changes have definitely improved the game, but I think the best thing for its longevity would be switching to a paid release.
What I think would work best:
$20ish price tag with F2P weekends for new players to try before they buy with one right at launch.
Get rid of the battle pass and season systems and move to like monthly or so updates. I think a new map or power
Given that higher tiered skins have recolor options, I think it'd be much more interesting (and potentially more lucrative for 1047) if the basic skins like Topo/Canopy/Scales/Mosaic/etc and the progression skins of Carbon/Gold/Proelium were the recolors that you currently use Proelium to buy. This would give the recolor system much more depth as a lot of skins only have one other choice. It would also give players the ability to show weapon mastery while also using a skin that alters the weapon model. It might be more work to implement for skins (ones that change the weapon model) that already exist, but shouldn't be much more difficult for new skins. It'd also help 1047 sell more of the ch
So I've kinda come to the idea that maybe the BR and Onslaught shouldn't return, but should in a sense merge. I've posted before about what I was calling Takedown Onslaught - what I'd now just call Onslaught - which I think should basically be a 32 player, 8 teams of 4, version of Takedown on Onslaught maps that is functionally a mini version of the BR without any looting mechanics and contained to one map per match.
From that mode I think it would be interesting if at the relaunch 1047 implemented a maybe once a week limited-time tournament mode. 8 teams per bracket with the bracket positioning being decided by an opening Onslaught match. From there, it would play out like a standard brack
I will be glad to see the removal of factions and the change to the loadout system from the playtest, but the factions will still exist at least in the lore and weapons/equipment will still have their ties to factions. If they're going to continue with the 3 chapters of battle passes per season setup, which I like, I think theming each chapter would be pretty cool, especially since character skins will no longer be locked to factions. So there would be an Aeros pass, a Meridian pass, and a Sabrask pass, each giving skins for their own weapons, a couple of character skins, and appropriately styled player cards/portals/sprays/charms/emotes.
It would also be interesting if all 3 passes unlocke
Pretty self explanatory. 6 teams of 4 on Onslaught maps to keep the 24 player cap. Functionally the same to Onslaught with loadouts and Power Weapon Care Packages. It would basically be a heavily streamlined BR and I think the lower player count coupled with 4v squad based gameplay would help the game mode keep a higher player count. If bots are needed then teams could get filled with players and additional teams entirely made of bots could pad out the lobby.
Gonna get a lot of flack from the diehard community for this, but hear me out before immediately disagreeing with me. The ability to portal nonstop creates such a high skill ceiling that only the most dedicated players will be able to enjoy the game. High-skill ceiling movement games never get big enough playerbases to support themselves. SG1 never did, Unreal Tournament never did, even Titanfall 2 struggled and it has a much easier to learn movement system than this game. I get wanting to appease the diehard fans as they're the current base, but it'll only ever be the diehards if the barrier to entry remains so high. A newer player will uninstall after a few games of being portalled all ove
The armor system is horrendous. With so much inspiration from Apex, why not add Evo Shield? Apex fixed their armor system over 3 years ago. Having to pickup upgrades and then losing them on death means you can often get stuck with white at endgame against a full team of gold. And its not just get better at looting. First, why would anyone want to loot. More importantly if you're queuing solo and playing with randoms, you're so much more likely to keep dying that any upgrades you get you will keep losing until you're back at white.
At this point I don't think Evo shields is the solution. I think armor should be a consistent amount for the entire match - maybe like 75 health. Gold is too forg
I've been thinking a lot about the playlists in the game, well really every aspect of the game, and to me it seems that the Arena type gamemodes could use a reshuffling/rework. I think Deathmatch, Control, and Hotzone shouldn't be round-based and should function more like Splitgate 1. They should also make up a single playlist. Splitball, Firecracker, and Takedown are all round-based and should function that way and I think should comprise their own playlist. Ranked should be based around this playlist as well. The issue is Takedown uses its own maps. I like the simulation maps and I understand their history, but I think it would be simpler if some/most/all of them were reskinned to fit the
I think there is definitely a place for abilities in this game, but Rush is really the only one that I think works given the context of the game. Wall and Wall Hacks are both broken in their own ways. I think the best move for the relaunch would be to take a page out of Halo and give Meridian an Active Camo ability and Sabrask an Overshield. Rush, Active Camo, and Overshield are all functionally similar as they are selfish abilities that would give a short term buff to a specific stat (speed, visibility, health). Obviously they would need to only last a handful of seconds, like Rush, and maybe with the ability to regenerate in that timeframe. For Active Camo - you definitely shouldn't be abl
