Hi all! Hopefully not too self promotional but I helped set up a writing competition to prop up a potential free online magazine. Any genre of fiction, any time period etc is fine. The main rule is that all entries have to be set in South Australia, which we're hoping will make for some fun entries plus a bit of local culture.

If you want to learn more or submit an entry we have a website, basically a noticeboard at this stage but we might post the best entries on it with the writers' consent: https://reddirtmag.wordpress.com/

Entry is FREE, which we're hoping will be a nice drawcard. There are prizes for the winner (a gift card or $100) and runner up (

As the title says! I got really into Lovecraft over the last few months and ended up listening to / reading them all. It was a fascinating dive since I've never read an author's entire set of works before. There were ones I liked more and ones I liked less, so I decided to grade them all - subjectively of course, as I'm certain no one would have the exact same grading as I do.

Broadly, I consider C to be 'bad'; B to be 'okay to good' for the pulp magazines and around par with the best stories I'm personally able to write; and A for 'great'.

Grades for Lovecraft's miscellaneous works:

C: 'The Street'

C+: 'The Statement of Randolph Carter'

B-: 'Memory', 'The Alchemist',

I've been hoping for a very long time for a decent alternative to Meta to arrive - in any form, from any country - but one just hasn't popped up. I don't want algorithms, I just want to see stuff from my friends, and maybe clubs and social groups (which are the only reason I still use Facebook). Give me an ad or two, I don't care, just as long as it's not one infinite scroll of vomit that none of my friends want to use anymore. Some groups I'm part of dislike Facebook and want to move away from it, but don't feel confident asking everyone to download an additional app for that group only. There's Discord I guess.

I think an app that would be happy to operate mainly or only in Australia woul

So, you know about how in our world, different tectonic plates rumble against each other and cause stuff on the surface to go boom?

That's boring. In my world, water magically binds to minerals in the subducting underwater crust. Then when the crust starts plunging into the mantle, the water makes rocks in the lower crust of the continental plate wet and the wet rock melts, making magma pockets that rise to the surface.

It's a bit out there but I think it's pretty cool
