I need to gift one. Anyone know of a group or organization who can use one? Casual Googling says it costs $250-500 to move one, but that’s not much compared to purchase price.

Random request from my wife…what are some of the quietest restaurants around Cary / Triangle? Can go easier on folks with hearing aids.
TIL :-)
Was skipping through some old chapters in Wildbow’s Worm (Amy vs Slaughterhouse 9) and came across this familiar face:
The third was another Frankenstein hodgepodge of two individuals. The lower half was a man who must have been built like a gorilla in life, rippling with muscles, walking forward on his knuckles. His upper body grew up from the point the other body’s neck should have begun, an emaciated man with greasy brown hair and beard, grown long. He was not unlike a centaur, but the lower half was a brutish man.
Steel and Heavy Metal!!
This used to be so simple. I’d like to “give the gift of music” for Christmas. I could make a mixtape, but nobody has tape players. Ditto burning a CD. I love that you can now print custom LPs on vinyl, but I’d also have to give them a record player and I’m not sure young people want that. (Still plan A.)
I guess I could copy MP3s to a thumbdrive, but at best it would be downloaded to a phone and tossed or wiped.
I suppose I’m reaching back to a time when there was a physicality to music, a heft and texture and weight. Something not completely ephemeral and weightless and empty. Liner notes even. Does that still exist?
Tangentially, I can’t help but note how many places still play 80s roc
Looking for river rock, retaining wall material etc by the cubic yard. There used to be a place up on Chapel Hill Rd but it looks like they moved?

I have no mouth and I must scream.
—The Crawl that Went Wrong
I've got a bunch of fiber-coupled multi-mode lasers (638-830nm, 0.5W).
The manufacture's datasheet clearly states that the FC/PC fiber pigtail is 0.22 NA (numeric aperture), with 105µm core and 900µm cladding (1m length for mixing).
I can empirically measure the beam divergence coming out of the fiber, whether or not it is screwed into a receiving FC/PC sleeve, and it is definitely 2.9° full-angle. (I measured the projected beam diameter at six different working distances from 2cm to 1m.)
I'm trying to square that with the definition of Numeric Aperture on Wikipedia, which seems to state:
NA = _n_ sin θ
I'm in normal air, so refrac
I know Raleigh and Durham have protests scheduled for Sat Apr 19, but I didn't see anything posted for Chapel Hill. It looks like their last Hands Off protest was in front of the Court Building (Peace and Justice Plaza)...are others planning to be there tomorrow?
