Easy: Have a drink whenever a line is repeated (game is rigged; a new day; just a kid)
Medium: Whenever someone dies
Hard: Whenever someone has a drink on screen
Legendary: "Fuck", and variations thereof.

All Skulls: Whenever bureaucratic red tape gets in the way of someone doing their job.

  • Burrell
Earvin was stuck between needing the numbers to appease higher ups and dealing with ungrateful subordinates trying to backdoor him.
  • Marlo
Marlo got what he wanted, but it was fleeting and he could never enjoy it. He was out of place for the game out there, and couldn't risk playing the game right here. Also all his friends are dead or in jail.
  • Levy
All his clients keep dying or going to jail.
  • Officer Walker
Just trying to do his job and now the whole streets are declaring war on him.
  • Templeton
Just trying to put out a good story and keeps getting checked by Gus.
  • Damien Pierce
Hassled by the cops for no goddamn reason.
  • Glekas
    Just trying to run

For me, it was when Auggie gave Mahone a cigarette after he gets clocked by Bodie.

"How do you get to the rest of the world from here?"
As someone from an immigrant family it often feels like there's a glass ceiling that's hard to break though. Maybe you need more money, more connections, idk.

"No shame in holding onto grief, long as you make room for other things too."
I've often dealt with depression and sometimes it's overwhelming, but Bubs is right; you can be sad but also make room in your heart for happiness.

"Boy you need more than this here.... A life Jimmy"
I've gone through various addictions of everything short of hard drugs and whether it's working out, video games, alcohol, food, when you're in it, it feels like it's everything. But you need more t

I'm about to finish S5 soon of a b2b rewatch. Was wondering if there was an interesting way to do the next. My only two ideas so far are a beginning interspersed with a middle, like S1E1 and S3E6 then S1E2 S3E7. Also a backwards one? But I'd love to hear better ideas.

So we know how Snot Boogie and Johnny Fifty got their nicknames. The Greek, not being Greek, obviously uses it to obfuscate his identity. D for D'angelo is pretty straight forward. We know Dukie did not have the opportunity to use much soap. Bubbles blew a snot or saliva bubble early in the show as he nodded off, so we can probably assume that one. Slim Charles is kind of lanky and Prop Joe has a proposition for you. Bodie probably comes from Broadus and Herc comes from Hauc.

What about the completely unknown nicknames?

  • Wee Bay
  • Stinkum
  • Bird
  • Shamrock
  • Stringer
  • The Bunk
  • Bunny
  • Donut
  • Poot
  • Snoop
  • Cutty

And any others you can think of. Get creative.

This isn't the most overt piece of symbolism like the ring or anything, but I just realized how some of the most beloved, even if flawed,.characters share sandwiches. Literally break bread together, marking a sort of bond. Weebay and the cops, Bodie and Carver (and Herc). Bodie again with McNulty. Duquan and Prez.

Food in general seems to underscore the realism that the Wire aims for. At the end of the day, everybody gotta eat right? Regardless of which player you are in the game, you're a human, you need to eat, and you eat with others. We're all connected. That is all.
