Been using the synology NAS products for a while now, at work and home and over the years, I periodically bump up to a new model 4 bay for better CPU and larger drive support. I have a DS414j that's really starting to show its age - I've nearly maxed out the drive capacity, and I'm not really interested in going for another 4bay, or painfully upgrading each drive one by one for a handful of extra TBs.

I'd like to bump up to SHR 2 (2 parity drives), and I have a mixed bag of drives right now: 6TBx6, 3TBx4. I will probably grab a couple of newer 12TBs for to add to the new build.

  1. I know there are certain rules about how you can expand the storage on SHR - if I build the new NAS fresh wit

So, the floor boards look to be in pretty good shape, no excessive scratching, but it looks like a poly based product was used originally and had worn through in high traffic areas. Where the wood has been exposed to air, it's gone a bit gray.

I was thinking of going for a medium duty sander like this: https://www.homedepot.com/tool-truck-rental/Square-Buff-Floor-Sander/07014A/index.html because I don't want to cut too deep into the floor, and I'm not experienced with drum sanders.

I want a finish that isn't too shiny, and preferably one that penetrates rather than sits on top, as I don't really want this wear-through issue again in a few years. I was looking at boiled linseed oil, but I'

I've never bothered in the past, but watching this video really made me think twice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atayHQYqA3g&feature=youtu.be . I know we don't get much snow here, but we had a few days last year that made me pretty nervous going to work, even with AWD. I Drive a Subaru WRX STI for reference. Those of you that do, what do you do with your summer tires? Stack them in the garage/attic/basement? What does a tire shop charge for a swap? Can I get away with buying the cheapest winter tires out there?

edit: wow, thanks for all the responses guys, except that one guy. That guy is a jerk.

Hey everyone, I made this community because my wife loves SphynxCats and was sad there weren't more pictures of them on reddit. I've kept the rules extremely loose because you guys are great, and it's never been an issue, maybe a spam once every few months, nothing serious.

A user asked me today if selling cats was against the community rules - It's something I hadn't given thought to. I said yes (it's against the rules) because my thought is that people come here to see and share pictures of their cats, not see ads, but that discussion about it in the comments was fine with me.

If all of you as a community feel differently, please let me know in the comments!

Edit: thanks everyone for t

Hey guys, I have about 18TB in RAID 5 on a Synology NAS. I'm not backed up, and I've reached the point that it's starting to worry me. I'm considering an off-site, offline backup using disks on a shelf. My main concern right now is cost, as I don't have a lot of extra money to spend on this right now, perhaps in the future.

I considered the new Glacier deep archive tier, but this would still cost me about $20 a month (which is great) but I'm concerned about the difficulty and cost of a full recovery (which seems to be something like $1700 according to their data retrieval charts).

So, what do you think of a pile of WD Blue drives that get a one-time write, a full disk surface scan, and
