Hi everyone. I’ve read the rules and checked out the about for the sub, but haven’t seen any FAQ or resources. Essentially, I’m looking for advice regarding navigating a relationship with my donor.

About me: my parents used a sperm donor because my dad had a vasectomy in his first marriage. My dad has since passed away. I found out about the donor via 23andMe. I know who it is and we are in occasional contact. Here is the issue: he seems very cool and I want to get to know him, I just don’t really know how to navigate the situation. We talk off and on, but I’ll be honest, I’m not the best with responding. That’s partially because I’m a busy PhD student, but it’s also because I can be a bit

I remember realizing this odd result in my master’s micro class: that firms are risk-loving in wages. Why? Well, because the cost function is concave in wages and the profit function is revenue minus the cost function, and thus the profit function is convex in wages. And since convex functions represent risk-loving preferences over gambles, firms are risk-loving in wages.

Intuitively, this feels wrong. Is there any economic justification/intuition for why this is true? Or is this result just a weird quirk of the theory? Alternatively, has there been much work done on this (either empirically or theoretically)?

I am a brand new incoming PhD student (Economics) for the fall semester. During my masters, I let some of my organizational systems slip, and I’m trying to improve on this before my program starts. Does anyone have any apps/software/organizational tool recommendations that are particularly useful for PhD students? Managing coursework vs research, etc. Even something as basic as “I really like this calendar or reminders app.” Im in the Apple ecosystem, btw.

If it helps, econ Ph.D.’s are responsible for basically no research the first year, and maybe a little in the second. I know some other disciplines (eg Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, etc) might have lab responsibilities from the beginn

I’m an incoming PhD student from... down the road haha and was wondering if y’all have any recommendations for apartments? How’s university apartments? The Durham sister location was very popular amongst my friends. I’d prefer locations on the cheaper side but don’t have a preference for one bedrooms vs two. Thanks in advance.
