I have an odd-ball quest in which I am attempted to save some references to managed objects in an unmanaged object, and want to ensure that the GC will not accidentally mark them as unused if it cannot immediately find a reference. To find a solution to this, I need to better understand the Garbage Collector / CLR internals.

So, I have come to ask your aid / assistance in selecting the best book for the job.

Many Thanks.

I am primarily a C# programmer, having started off on C++, but never really spent as much time doing it as I feel I should have. I am now attempting to write some code in C++ to get around some limitations in C#, and need to get up to speed on Templating. The resources I have found on the web seem...incomplete, in my honest opinion. I have some free time coming up, and wouldn't mind sitting down with a good book. So, my C++ gurus, which book, if any, in your opinion, is the best one for a programmer to learn about C++ Templating from?

Many Thanks, rossryan

Hey Guys, I am looking to pick up a job in California (I'm in PA). I have a CS degree, and am somewhat skilled in programming C#. I have a few years experience. Can anyone recommend any good tech companies to apply to? I'd like somewhere in southern CA, but I am open to northern CA. Any tips for the transition?

It is my understanding that a few of the new recruits (Darth Bill, I am looking at you) have never learned the mother-tongue. Well, Good News Everyone! I have located a dictionary to help you all get down some of the basics. Let's not have a repeat any of the unfortunate accidents that occurred during Darth Vader's inspection last week (no, seriously, they were unfortunate, not at all in the ironic or hopefully malevolent way of creating 'an unfortunate accident,' like what we have planned next Tuesday for those Ewoks (on a separate note, we should really use Ewoks instead of Bothans as spies; ten minutes in the washing machine that Darth Doctor has cooked up, and we get a spy, willing or no

Greetings people of r/Philosophy. I am struggling to understand the concept of peace. The problem is manifold, and part of it stems from the definition of the word.

For example, would you consider a world ruled by benevolent dictatorship to be of peace? Would you find free will to be at odds with the idea of peace among mankind? Would you consider peace to be an outwards appearance, the state of the mind / spirit / what have you inside, or some combination of both? Is freedom compatible with peace, even though freedom allows for the possibility of a state of non-peace?

Hi guys,

I upgraded to VS 2010, and my applications are complaining about not being able to context switch for a certain period of time, and that VS would prefer if the application would occasionally pump some messages. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I am building a kernel for a class, based off of the 2.6.24.7 source, and am running into an annoying error. I normally do not program in C, so that may be part of the problem.

I made some modifications, and here's the error:

kernel/user.c: In function ‘sched_create_user’: kernel/user.c:167: warning: statement with no effect kernel/user.c:168: warning: statement with no effect kernel/user.c:169: warning: ISO C90 forbids mixed declarations and code kernel/user.c:171: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type make[1]: *** [kernel/user.o] Error 1 make: *** [kernel] Error 2

The function code itself:

static int sched_create_user(struct user_struct *up) { int rc = 0;

Why was the Death Star blown up? Poor planning.

Why was a Wookie on Endor? Good planning.

What can we learn from this?

So I have located some...documentation on proper planning. With any luck, we can keep Darth Sizzler from ejecting himself into a star again (Protip -> when attempting to escape from pursuing rebel forces, make sure the escape pod is pointed away from the gravitational well of a medium class nuclear furnace; no matter how fast you think the Empire will be there to pick you up, it's not THAT fast). Be like Darth Babycheeks, who has somehow taught his escape pod's computer to land on whatever planet has nice, white sandy beaches and a pleasant atmosphere; he even taught
